OK OK, It’s the brand of my favourite Throat Lozenges!
It’s called Golden Throat. What were you thinking??!!

These lozenges were recommended by a best friend of mine. She always gets bad throats as she lectures and sometimes loses her voice for a while. Her Chinese Physician got this for her and since then she had been a fan, then recommended to me when I had one of my bad sore throat days. It worked better than Strepsils and other lozenges. And since then, I always have a pack handy in my handbag, car and home.

The ingredients are natural and herby with Water melon frost, Luohan fruit, Honey Suckle and Star Anise oil, among them.

I was excited when I saw a new packaging just before the Chinese New Year. It was the first time I see such a packaging, a mini tin container..  it’s just so uniquely old fashioned. It cost more than the original box packaging, but I bought it anyway. You can store further packs in them later when they are depleted.

After all that Chinese New Year goodies, I certainly need them badly!

Can’t Stop Eating

posted by constance

Pizza, Pasta, KFC, Ice Cream and Cakes! Gosh, I had a good look at my posts lately. These are some of the comfort food that I love. And the past two days, I made detours to the local bazaar (Pasar Malam) just to buy some of that yummy Taiwan Chicken Chops. They have Spicy, Honey, Sesame Chicken Chops. I love the honeyed ones. And they do taste so good. I think pretty soon I may have to find a way to lose weight or my daughter’s friends might think I’m in the role for Mrs Santa Claus! She’s going to be going to some Kids’ Christmas Party for kids and parents will all be there. What am I going to wear? It’s so stressful for overweight parents!

Old Style Internet Kopitiam

posted by constance

It was one of those Katong trips I went weeks ago that I spotted something that is very rare in Singapore. As everyone would know, Singapore has many malls, shopping centres and its share of Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Mc Cafe and many many modern rocket sky buildings that offers wifi surfing free.

You can even surf in the West Coast by the beach or sit next to the BBQ pit and check your email. So what I found here is just shockingly hilarious that still exist in Singapore. But of course it is in Katong, my little gem of 70s living in Concrete Singapore.

LOOK! This is a picture of an internet cafe, that looks so incredibly DIFFERENT with mismatched tables, chairs in an old shophouse and the best part? An Old Man manning the place! Wooo hooo! The signage reads RED HOT Internet Cafe, possibly the cheapest because it costs only $1.00 for an hour’s usage! It’s really an internet cafe but more like an old kopitiam sort because look at the old coffee pot on the shelf! The old man also makes the coffee using this style!

Old Style Modern Convenience – COOL!  I ADORE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!

What’s your view?? LOL!

My Girls Ate Those Tainted Ice Pops in July..

posted by constance

I was doing backups for the photos in my hard disk when I saw this picture that I had snapped in July recently. At that time, there was a food fair in Suntec City and we had been there to try out various foods that came from international food retails. Among them was this Yili Yoghurt Ice Pops that both my girls had.

The brand of the ice pops and also this particular product had been recalled during the China milk scandal. This picture shows Lea eating one of the pops which was tainted with melamine. This was a new product on promotion during the food fair and the girls pestered me for them. Now that I see it, I do get worried. Health boards have consoled the public that you have to be consuming affected products as often as daily for a long period of time.

Did you consume any of the food products that was tainted before it was exposed? My girl used to love the Dutch Lady strawberry milk but I seldom buy them, only occasionally like once every two months. Now, I don’t trust many milk products. We really have to see where these products are manufactured from. I now go for mostly New Zealand and Australia products.

Back-breaking task… comes with age?

posted by constance

Ouch Ouch Ouch!! My back really hurts and I feel sore all over. Been doing spring cleaning the whole day since yesterday since my desktop pc is now konked out for whatever reasons.

I had been organising my kids’ toys and cubby because they really have so much stuff. I decided to throw some stuff and give away some too. I have just started and it took me two days, and I have not gone upstairs to get started on the room that stores all the kids’ toys and clothes. I have lots of clothes they cannot wear anymore and I think I better give it to Salvation Army. I have a baby cot, pram, stroller, playpen, and lots and lots of baby clothes.. I know who I can pass it to if I were in Penang but i’m in Singapore and the cost of postage will kill me.

After the whole day of spring cleaning, I wished I had bought that Oto eBliss I saw in Suntec over the weekend. It was going at S$238 and I tried on it and felt soo good. Now my body and back is aching I wished I had it. My body is telling me I am OLD! I also tried the Hip Hugger, very spunky and stylish chair but I don’t think my home can fit any new furniture unless I get rid of some first.

Look at my kids trying out the eBliss the other day. They always ‘attack’ these massage systems whenever we go out… and also the gym workout equipment and the trampolines. I have the Osim Gallop and they love it. Its a treat for them when they behave…hahahaha

Aromatherapy

posted by constance

I was supposed to drop by Ikea this afternoon to get some tea light candles for my oil burner. In the old days, when I had no kids, I’d light up the burner and drop Bergamot and Peppermint and have a nice soak in the tub. With my kids around now, I don’t do that anymore because you don’t get luxury time in the shower even! Now, I light up the burner in the balcony and drop Citronella for prevention of mosquitos. We live on the 10th and 11th floor and yet we do get an occasional mosquito some days. Anyone know of a best way to repel them? Any other oils that I can use on my burner that works? I dislike the use of those Baygon or Ridsect sprays.

Weight Grows With Age?

posted by constance

The durian season is still around. I think Durian made me put on some weight in the past month. I hope there isn’t any sight of it or I’ll just keep growing sideways! Does it take so long before it is totally cleared? Not so sure why I am so addicted to it this year when I have not really been eating them for years! Does it have to do with age? Our tastebuds certainly change and as far as I want to thank you all for the lovely wishes yesterday on my birthday, I actually suppressed myself to ignore that I made it to the big 4 already.

My numbers are increasing, and my weight is increasing too. Does it usually move in such parallel fashion? Does that mean ten years later, I shall be adding another 10 kgs to my weight till my knees give way? Yikes. So I better check out a new weight loss program or just go for alli. If it can help me lose some weight, I’d be so happy.

Basement Rooms

posted by constance

Some childcare centres operate from the basement in our housing estates. These basements are actually built for emergency purposes such as hideout and protection from terrorists threats and other hazards. These bomb shelters, as they are called, have built-in power and water points. I tagged along my friend when she picked up her son from the centre. She had placed her son there in the afternoons as she works full time and had no one to care for him during the afternoon. She was telling me how often he gets sick in that centre and tries to find another centre nearer to her office for him.

Looking around, I realised that perhaps the limited ventilation is not really that great. Kids who get sick should be made to stay away from these centres as they can infect each other in that close range. I figured that perhaps I should have recommended them commercial based Ebac dehumidifiers to get rid of the stale air and probably an air purifier for safety of viruses in the air.

Fast Food Week

posted by constance

The week-long school holiday will be ending soon and my girls will be going back to school on Monday. Holidays whizzed by and before you know it, it is coming to an end. When school reopens, Rae will be starting on her final term before she takes that dreaded exam again which will in October, as planned in her school time table. The past week I had not really gone out except for the weekend when the family took to the east side and spend lots of outdoor time. Still that did not stop me from feeling sluggish, perhaps from the untimely meals that I have been taking since the girls holiday means we eat earlier or just grab a bite outside.

I have also been eating too much on processed foods with the kids asking for fast food diets most of the time in this week long holiday. We’ve had too many Subways, Mos Burger, McDonalds, KFCs, Sakae Sushis, Burger King, Pepper Lunch that I think it is time to be scouting for the best diet pills in the market for some serious weight loss remedy. I know the girls will be turning their nose up at our regular staple meals of rice dishes when the week is over.

Cool Shots in a Health Fair

posted by constance

Last Sunday, Singapore General Hospital had a Health Roadshow creating awareness about Colon Risks and Colon Cancer. There were many people there. There were many illustrative panels and also video screens showing the colons and animated shows about the internal organs. But those videos proved too much for me as I had not had my lunch yet. I wanted to view them but hubby was in a hurry to get lunch. He was starving as we did not take breakfast and it was almost noon! However I managed to take few shots and show you a cool picture idea SGH had done.

These are some of the educational panels. They were in bright red, very attractive actually. There were stations managed by some hospital personnels that teaches you the important foods and the risks that could lead to colon problems. They even let you pick up a 2day stool test kit free if you want to. It was a success, this roadshow because many Singaporeans showed interest.

If you register to take part in their road show, you can get a cool picture shot for you. What kind of picture? Your portrait? nope! Look below.

This is what I meant. Look at this picture. It is an operating theater in the centre of the road show, created for picture taking. Give them your ticket and they don you up in a mask, a surgeon’s operating coat, a head cover and you are the next Surgeon of the Year. You get to hold some surgeon’s operating tool and pretend that you are operating on that fake mannequin under the sheets! I think this is cool. I saw from a level above that some took the pictures as a family.  Families taking it look like a group of surgeons operating on this mannequin! Awesome! I wanted to take a picture but I think Hubby wasn’t interested at all. It’s no fun taking the picture alone..  Would you participate in this if it were you?
