Job Detour

posted by constance

I remember that I was once so interested in IT that I took up some modular courses to equip myself with the knowledge, hopefully I could either apply for Web Developer Jobs or something in that line. However, because of my graphic background, I ended up doing Multimedia Design instead. Then as the IT age began to unfold itself, suddenly there was a big influx of Multimedia Designers, much to the disappointment to many designers who had a proper design background, me included. In the end, I decided to go back to the graphic industry as these jobs are better in terms of design oriented and not so much of just putting lots of images, animation in a page but rather, space, layout and colours that matches on prints. And I never once step into the multimedia industry doing hardcore MM jobs.

Protection for All

posted by constance

I am trying to get the cable guy to fix or rather, transfer the my existing cable to our new place. Apparently the fellas say that we have no existing cable point so. Yes, so, full stop. That means we would have to 1. either get a cable laid which will cost us few thousand dollars, or 2. Get a satellite dish (poor fella would have to climb on the rooftop to fix it * get a high risk life insurance if they have such a thing* ) for cable TV (but that means we won’t have cable internet..) BAH. How terrible. So, we decided to cancel our Bintanghubby and go for the other subscriber instead. But that means I only will get my internet connected in the beginning of September. But that would be better that getting the new fibre broadband because they need 2 months to get around for the first appointment! Another BAH!

Treating Your Water

posted by constance

A friend recommended me a filter for my tap in the kitchen sink. She said that with that, I would not need to boil water for consumption in future. Then again, I’m not sure how it works.. She told me that within the filter itself, there is a water softener present to replace the calcium and another mineral and it also helps to improve the taste of consumption water… Has anyone really tried this type of water treatment before? For the convenience, I applaud it but what about any long term effects. Is this a healthy alternative, anyone knows? If the water that we drink is unhealthy, I would definitely welcome the move.

Salts of all kind

posted by constance

I am working at ‘break-neck’ pace packing up stuffs with the movers’ appointment getting nearer and nearer. Luckily I decided to do the space cleaning for the new place last week when I saw that one of the days were auspiscious day in the month, albeit 7th month. Before that I was hunting high and low looking for the most ‘natural’ sea salt in the supermarket and what I can find is mostly processed table salt, fine and coarse ones. I decided to surf the net to see if I could fine salt that is so natural like what my friend told me, with a rock-like substance.. And each time I come across sorts of table rock salt, from table rock golf clubs, ghost towns to even a beautiful scenic views of table rock real estate at pinnshores.com on the net. And they make me feel like I would really like to forget all that moving house tension and pack up and go to this beautiful Table Rock Lake instead… if I could.

Sending out Cards

posted by constance

I’ve got loads of photos in a box. And with moving date coming closer and closer, I wonder if I should actually keep them in an album of should I just bring them to the photo studio and keep them into a digital file instead. I am thinking of collating some of these photos and create some holiday photo cards but I have no idea if these sites are local ones or not. So I really do not know if I may need to pay a high postage rate eventually if they aren’t local ones. And they might take weeks before I see the end product.. Christmas is just few months a way so these cards would be a nice touch instead of Christmas cards which seemed to be obsolete now.. I have not received Christmas cards in the last few years! But lots of sms wishes… I rather have cards, more personal..

Surprises

posted by constance

It’s been a while since I organized any events or parties. I really have been so busy in the past two years that I don’t even blink at birthday dates or other special events/festive periods. At the back of my mind, I longed to have a party for my daughters, perhaps one they could remember for the rest of their life.. I am also tempted to send out Surprise Birthday Invitations on their behalf so that they could have a memorable birthday party but would it be a rude surprise? What if there are certain friends they do not wish to invite or some they would like to break a good news too? How about a Christmas party for everyone then.

Auckland and Wellington caught unaware..

posted by constance

Just days ago, I read that the city of Wellington and Auckland in New Zealand suddenly had freezing cold temperature after a polar blast. It meant that after half a decade, for the first time, they had not the usual cold temperature but they had also been snowed in, or rather, snow for the first time after so long. Not expecting this, many of them had been stucked at home because they had been unprepared for such a weather… I wonder if their cars had been attached with snow chains because of the thick snow otherwise they won’t be able to drive their vehicles on snowed roads. Schools were shut, roads closed and even power were cut off… oh and how would they be able to keep warm if there was no power to heat their homes… it must have been a situation..

High Cost of Medical

posted by constance

I bought some medication for flu and allergy yesterday. They are quite costly. I practise self medication instead of going to see the GP because sometimes it is just a few days of pain, aches or feeling unwell. I only see the doc when I know things are getting worst. Medication is very costly now. And seeing the GP is too, especially when you are not working. However, unless you are warded, then you can use the medisave funds set aside for medical costs that cost the earth. In the States too, one can also apply to register for a social security disability insurance so that medical costs are heavily subsided and one is relieved of all that bills that one needs to dig deeper into the pocket. I wonder how many countries besides, Singapore and US practise this?

My Last Bake

posted by constance

Photobucket

It feels like years since I last baked. I guess being busy means I get less time to do that. Each time I shop for groceries, my mind is never far from wanting to bake, bake, bake! Each time they put any kind of delicious butter up for a promo, I thought of storing up for my next bake. And each time when I walk past the baking supplier, I can’t help but pop in for a short while just to check out what kind of new paper cups or new decors for baking… I feel so deprived, not baking but what can I do.. I am so exhausted with work and even my off days are burnt with getting supplies, preparation or spending time with my kids’ homework or just having dinner with them, which I enjoy and will not sacrifice any thing for it.

I am lucky to have taken this photo, my last bake in March.. ( I wonder if I will succeed baking another one before the third week of this month). It is because I will be moving, by then. Different place with a new oven but I will miss this current oven (in picture above) having baked so many cakes, desserts, meals, cookies and bread in them? I also dried my tomatoes for homemade sundried tomatoes (which was so delicious). If there is no more last bake, then it’s farewell my little oven.

They aren’t what you think

posted by constance

We are in the new age, aren’t we? Names of people have changed. People get all sorts of names, from Sky to Rain, names of nature.. Sometimes they make me hysterical, sometimes I think deeper to see how can these ‘unique’ names be associated with the person. Just like the Red Indians, they name their off-springs very unique names like Sacred Moon or even Running Water. Then we have clothings like the medical scrubs weren’t very ‘medically inclined’ either. Then the other day, I read about parish clothing, thinking they’d be very much associated with Church wear for the parishers. Then upon surfing around a bit, they ended up to be just a brand of some very fun and cool looking type of clothings! Gosh, things aren’t what we expect them to be now.
