It’s been a long time since I bought any magazines. Especially 8-days. I used to buy them every week to read movie/TV reviews and follow up on local dramas. However, today, after seeing the cover of Kung Fu Panda 2, I decided to get a copy, not for me, but for my elder daughter. She told me that she wants to watch this Kung Fu Panda 2 during the holidays and since 8-days covered this movie in the latest issue, I decided to get it so I can have an idea the time, location about this movie. One thing of regret buying this issue is that, a gift was attached to the magazine, postcards and door hangers which came in just one set, and that caused a lot of sibling rivalry among my girls, as usual. So what can I do now… get another magazine or face more conflicts between the two girls…

I can see grey hairs popping up. Guess this time there is no way to hide them.. Not like in your younger times, this grey hair subject is totally zero. In fact, we never think the time will be so near and seeing one or two later on did not bother me as much. But now… not only did I see these greys, I think my hair is thinning even more so. Pretty soon, when I go to the local store, I can see myself window shopping for hair loss products next. What a bummer! Growing older and aging are subjects very much women would like to really not think about. So what will come next? PMS? Gosh, what double bummer I am heading! Sigh.. I don’t really relinquish these thoughts..
Did you ever have anything special that you’ve given to someone special in your family? My granny gave me a beautiful coloured gemstone bracelet when I was very young. Now that my kids are growing but not yet teenagers, sometimes I think about something special for them that will make them think about me as they grow older into adulthood and being parents themselves. I think that instead of expensive stuff, perhaps I should shop for their birthday gemstones. Does anyone know what is the july or november birthstone? Do birthstones actually follow months or the astrological signs? I remember my sis once told me that Topaz is her birthday stone and she is born in the November month.. Topaz is also a gemstones that once believed to help the wearer increase strength with the power it possess.
At work, everything is manual. I don’t have space for a cash register, and my calculator has died too. I sometimes whip out my handphone for the calculator function. Sometimes when I have so much on my mind, I wished I have something like the minimart uses, a barcode scanner to scan orders and lets me know when stocks run low… I know it is absurd to dream.. but sometimes I really like to use my brain a little less..Customers can be demanding, can be nice but there are some who are really such a bother! And some, they can be terribly rude, do not wait for their turn and expect your total attention even when you are with another customers… it is a hair pulling stage sometimes. Arggghhh!
Why do some people have such a big ego? Is it because of inferiority complex or superiority complex? I encounter some people who thinks they are The World and that the world revolves around them. A neighbour at work is one. He is a small man, with a big ego. He thinks he knows things better, and always want to be the last one to sum things up. I really detest this type of people. This type of person thinks he knows about the next person who comes up to him and sums up his life and gossips about it. Loud mouth, busybody and certainly unfillial. No wonder his mom is still reprimanding after all this years! He is in his 50’s with adult kids. I heard him teaching some male friend where to get the best testosterone cream in a conversation. He should have keep this type of conversation private, not out loud till the whole hawker can hear. Probably wants the world to think how good he is… bugger
What an eyeful I had. Last Saturday, on the way to work, I drove up to the little lane across to park my car. I normally like to park my car in the small lane because, there is no parking fee, no centred white lines and no parking cost is involved. Driving past is a small building, although looked like a non-occupied office is actually office to Aetos which manages high level security for many corporate establishments like bankings and organisations. The gate, modest looking but almost like decades old helms the entrance. Do not think that this place is empty. Aetos police cars comes in and out frequently.
A sensible driver should know his or her limits when parking a car. However this bugger, actually parked right in front of the gate. What an inconsiderate idiot. Especially where Aetos are similar to ‘police’ guards, albeit privatised. When this happens the whole stretch of cars parked along side of this small lane gets police/traffic summons for parking offence. This are usually cars of those who work across the road. Normally, summonses doesn’t happened. But when this car had parked there, people got so angry that they started dumping garbage on the car! So next time, be considerate or face being a garbage dump!
A shuffle of Ministers in the cabinet is in the works. I received some sms text via my mobile but haven’t really read them yet. Some ministers are retiring. After the election there has been some changes and I sometimes wonder if the new younger team will be able to lead Singapore to another level, perhaps a better one. But I do worry because I’ve seen many of the 3rd generation kids and they are not like what their fathers or grandfathers were. They did not lived in the era whereby survival basics and hard work plays an important aspect in their lives. They are mostly born into a comfortable lifestyle and had not seen much of what a third world or developing country is like. The needs at their basics are considered what luxury is in our era. Will these generation be able to handle hardship should they fall? Will they be able to understand that management jobs in a well-equipped and comfortable air-conditioned office is not what you get after one graduates? Jobs come in all levels too. What do you think?
The recent news about market stall owners that sells dry products which are non food, ie: clothes, tailoring services, cobblers and etc, are complaining that sales have dipped. They blame it on the new swanky malls sprouting everywhere in Singapore. They also blame it on the bad economic crisis, the rising costs for many items AND most commonly heard, they blame it on the casinos and gamblems who are so addicted to this gaming that they have stopped living life and probably gamblling away their regular household expenditures, kids treats and others.
I couldn’t help but agree. Regular Mom & Pop shops and small heartland shops are suffering because people now prefer to go to city or shopping malls as a One-Stop-Shopping, plus enjoy the cool air-conditioned comfort and resting areas. The casino is also attracting residents of Singapore into this type of gaming that may lead them into future addictions of gambling. The govt should now consider Helplines for casino addicted individuals, to go for something similar to a drug rehabilitation center or therapy treatment . Otherwise, I worry that there may be more social problems on the rise in the next decade.
