Retirement

posted by constance

I know many of us usually buy gifts for our family and friends for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, housewarming, full moon for babies and also for those who probably leaves home for further studies or more. But have you ever given anyone anything when your colleague is finally reaching the end of his working terms and is leaving to retire? Well, I have a friend who thinks that he has come to the max of his working age and is going to leave his familiar office and lovely friends by end of March. And with these, I definitely need some retirement gifts ideas because it has to be something personalize, right? What can I get for someone who is already in his 60s. Office items are out since he is leaving and wouldn’t want to be reminded of office work.. A dinner and a nice gift but, what?

She doesn’t like to perspire

posted by constance

“I wouldn’t be caught sweating out in the gym” All that hot and sweaty feeling just puts my friend off. She is one glamourous lady. She is watching her weight, as usual. She is petite and eats very little. ” Don’t eat till you’re full but eat just half portion of what you are served, well.. unless its very big, then eat quarter of it.”

Well, she certainly has strong discipline not to eat all her food. I won’t be able to resist the temptation and also, I am one who doesn’t feel comfortable seeing unfinished food on the plate… No wonder I put on weight easily. My friend doesn’t like to bother with all that working out, jogging because she’d rather pop in fat burners like lipozene so that she is in her comfort zone, all the time. And her comfort zone means, wearing nice clothes, not a drop of perspire and with her make up all freshly done and still staying fresh. Oh well, guess not everyone can do it the way she does. How about some good ‘ol jog and get some fresh air at the park?

Lean Rabbit Year?

posted by constance

Now that Chinese New Year has come and gone, did you find yourself putting on weight? Some of my friends told me that they actually cut down a lot on these New Year cookies, this year that is. That was because, many of these wheat-based stuff has it’s price sky rocket really high. Tarts, Love Letters, Peanut Cookies are no longer the price it used to be. Either you get a lower quality ones or just cut down a bit on the yummy good ones, which most of my friends did. And they also spend lesser time making home baked ones, work being one of the factors, that is. This year, the CNY was in early February, leaving many rushing only very little time to do some spring cleaning and some shopping. And due to work, they didn’t really spend so much baking. Sugar, Flour, Butter, they have all gone up too. And not to mention, cooking oil, LPG gas has also sky-rocketed.

Today, as I post this, my partner complained how the petrol just went up again, following news report that there is limited oil in the middle east thus brought our petrol prices to go up AGAIN. Guess with that coming, extra things to pay, food prices up, inflation looking set to enter our lives, the Rabbit year is a year to go on diet. So, hold on to your adapexin for the time being but supplement your diet plans with more exercise as the government is counting on everyone to be more productive.

Addicted to Bejeweled and Zuma

posted by constance

I am so addicted to facebook games, Bejeweled Blitz and Zuma Blitz. They are from the same game developer. Before, I didn’t bother with games except an occasional one or two when I felt like it. Now it is a must that I must have a game or two before I sleep. Sometimes I get so tired and snooze halfway in a game but I still want to play. It gives me a satisfaction I never get with other games. Maybe it helps to relieve my tension at work. Zuma Blitz was not in my game list but it was just an accidental moment when I decided to put my mouse on a ‘click here‘ while playing Bejeweled. And since then, I’d never been able to stop, playing with both games simultaneously! Do you like any of these games too?

Traditional or Home Remedies

posted by constance

They say longans are heaty. But when you cook them in Lor Han Guo, a chinese herbal drink, it is said to cool down our body heat. Longans when boiled with red dates, kei chi (Chinese Wolfberries) and a little rock sugar is something my kids enjoy. It is also said to help insomnia and anxiety.. something I really need since I get so little sleep lately.

Traditional Chinese Medicine sometimes has some good things, like certain ingredients that helps in a certain way. One thing I’m eager to find out is about acne home remedies, using chinese herbal ingredients, of course. Someone told me to get those ‘frog’ with dang shen, double boil it for an hour, add some salt and drink it for clear complexion… errr I cannot digest thinking I have to get the ‘frog’..

Kei Chi is said to aid our sights, longan nourishes our spleen, kidney, Barley cools our body internal heat, Red Bean is neutral, Green Bean is also a cooling ingredient but cannot be taken too much. Do you actually know which ingredient is heaty or cooling and aids what?

I remember buying a thick book that explains many herbal and ingredients Chinese use commonly in their food whether it is good for us in so many ways. Without it, I’d be at a loss.

Can’t Get To Sleep

posted by constance

I hadn’t had enough sleep lately. Over the weekend, I’ve been very busy with work, hardly have enough time for my children. And when I am home, sometimes I get so tired I just lie in bed. And I just couldn’t get to sleep no matter how I closed my eyes.. It has been like that for the past couple of nights, and happens most often when it is coming to the weekend.

I guess with all that, I probably might have to source for one of the best eye cream for dark circles if I want to get to work looking less than a panda bear! Does cucumber slices help? I’ve tried them before but not too long..maybe I should give it another try again.. Maybe that is more for eye bags and not dark circles under our eyes..

Irresistable M&Ms

posted by constance

Did you know that I got so addicted to M&Ms, not the regular ones, but the ones with dark chocolate in it. I once used to enjoy regular ones and would buy the extra large packs and pour them into a large glass jar and place it in front of the television. It is something addictive that I cannot stop once I start popping them into my mouth, very much like the Pringles Potato Chips, another favourite of mine. I would get a small pack of Dark Chocolate M&Ms and fill it into the container of the mini M&Ms and put it in the car. It is a good energy boost for me when I get sleepy or hungry, actually. But I know that usually after a fix of these addictive beady chocs, I’d have to start browzing for the best acne products because they are so heaty that I’d have pimples popping up by the next day for sure! When you are eating it, you’d never once mind the aftermath!

My Little Installation Artist..

posted by constance

If I had no time to tidy up my home, I’d probably avoid having visitors.

Oh well, I have to rephrase it. I actually meant…
I have no time to tidy up my home. I will not have visitors.  The real truth. And. My kids, they are absolutely adorable.. but they are making my home into their world of art. My younger one is an art enthusiastic, Her interest in art comes from my side of the family, my late dad, cousin, myself. I dare not imagine what she will grow up into. Unlike the three of us who loves to do 2D art like drawing and painting, she prefers to build things. Building anything from anything. She looks more incline to installation art… I hope she picks a more ‘bread-earning’ job like… Architect, than an Installation Artist..lol

Winning a set of picnic cutlery and plates and sweets, as soon as she got home, she’s back to building again… check this out.

Insurance for dogs

posted by constance

Very much like me, my girls has been pestering me to get them a pet.. They wanted dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and the whole stork if they could. As much as I love pets myself, I wouldn’t dream of getting it for the moment until they are ready and can be totally responsible to care for one. Cats are out of the question, their arrogance simply do not make me desire for one.. Well little ones like rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs are not very much in my mind as cleaning up their cages are a chore too. But somehow, I have this avid interest as far as dogs are concerned.

Though not now, I do sometimes surf the internet about the type of pet insurance dogs and other animals are required to get because it helps with hefty payment should something happened, like an accident, medical bills, animal theft and the like. I told my kids the need to buy a dog insurance, especially if one’s dog is a good line of pedigree champions. I also wonder if dog insurance covers accidents that are caused by act of God, like flooding, lightning, or the most common, a dog or cat being run over by a car..

Guess what I actually bought them last year after they both insist on getting a pet dog? Zhu zhu pet, a little robotic hamster toy that can coo, run about adventurously around your home. They were excited, of course but at least that stopped them asking about ‘real’ pets for a while. It’s been almost a year and I see the delight in their eyes when they see someone walking a dog..

Horses Need Insurance

posted by constance

When I was very young, I always pestered my mom for a horse. I had no idea that you cannot just bring up a horse at home. Well, unless you lived in a farm, have lots of space, I suppose. We just lived in a normal house, largest space available was the car garage and space in front of it. The other spaces in the garden were taken up by our chiku, mango, rambutan trees and mom’s flowering pots. No space left for a horse. We had dogs so I don’t think my dogs would want to share their guarded area with an horse either.

But I didn’t give up, pestering her again and again. Once she told me that her friend’s horsey (she was a horse breeder) was pregnant and I pleaded her if I could have it’s offspring! The adults must have had lots of fun laughing at my naivety. Mom probably got tired of my incessant pleading because one day she told me OK.. I waited and waited, but the horsey never come…

The idea of being a horse owner slowly did disappear as I matured and gave up finally, and understood how impossible it is to own one, of course. Till today, when I see anything linked to horses, I always remember how I wanted a horse badly. Once when I surfed the internet for horses (still, my favourite animal), I came across not just gears and equipments but equine horse insurance – a horse insurance, that one can actually or probably advised to buy for their horse if they were to own one. Gosh, after all these years, I didn’t know that there are insurance policies for horses! I guess this actually help to defray costs, especially for those who breeds horses for races and special purposes. Horses can chalk up expenditures that may cost one to spend lots of money so it is important to guard against unforeseen circumstances like high medical costs, gone missing, injury or even death. Of course before one can just insure their horse, you need to know what type of horse/pony you are insuring against. An example would be horse owners whose valuable horses running on race tracks may need to look for a veteran horse insurance that covers a more comphrehensive package instead.
