Korean Craze

posted by constance

A friend of mine is in Seoul for a shopping holiday. She has been there for a month. Looking for lots of materials to fund her sewing hobby, she told me that many of her friends also pestered her to buy cosmetics like false eyelashes, coloured lens and also weight loss pills that work. She told me that before she actually decided to buy them, she will definitely want to check with her Korean friends and those who have used it if they are safe first. I think that is an excellent idea and one of the finest way is of course is also to source online for reviews. Korean clothings are fine stuff too. They have intricate sewings and beautifully done handicraft.. I’d love to ask her to get something too if she hadn’t had too much to carry..

Stop Eating before CNY

posted by constance

“Mum.. can I eat this.. MUM can I open this now..” My girls had been eating the Lunar New Year cookies before Lunar New Year.. There will be nothing left by next week! The egg rolls have been opened, tarts and cookies opened, chocs finished and the soft drinks are left to a handful amount of bottles… Oh well, I guess if you don’t eat them now, you’d eat them later, what is the difference, right? Celebrate before others.. Patience and temptation are very important aspects if you have kids at home looking longingly at the goodies. For the adults, perhaps there’s always appetite suppressants to stop you from that want but for kids, there’s no stopping them. It’s either you hide them first or you don’t buy them first. I made a point to hide the nata de coco that they love because they will be likely fall sick eating too much of high sugar goodies before the New Year approaches! And other stuffs, I am going to delay buying them..

Cleaning Time

posted by constance

I bumped into an old friend while at the market. It is a busy day and everyone seems to be shopping a lot buying and preparing themselves for the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations. There’s lots of biscuits/goodies/snacks all being sold and getting cheaper each day. My friend had been taking few days to a week doing spring cleaning and had wanted to get rid of old stuffs like clothes, toys and books. She asked me to swing by her house to see if I wanted to pick up any children’s story books for my kids. I thought otherwise because I, myself had been having problems trying to get rid of my overstuffed shelvings too. Unless she has an extra PS3 to give away.. then it might be worth a trip.. That reminds me, I had to complete my spring cleaning before the weekend or I’ll never make it..

Kids have right too

posted by constance

I remember reading about a popular/famous footballer who may have fathered a young kid when he was in Japan. It started because the rumours of the child who bore a very close resemblence to the father. That got everyone talking and with that, they began to get the child and father to go for some medical tests or rather, something like a paternity testing to see if he is really the father and the child, flesh and blood.

However, sometimes I wonder if this is for the child or for the father. Does a child have rights to wait till he is of a certain decision making age and if he wants to know the identity of the father? Just as well, this footballer is a rich and famous fella. But if he were someone ordinary working the graveyard shift and does not own much more than his shirt on his back, would they have even brought this up?

Can’t wait for the park to be ready

posted by constance

It won’t be long before the nearby park is completed. It had been in construction for more than a year as part of the town upgrading project and to improve the community’s needs for parks for all ages. Before the place went for a major uplift/change, there were some new exercise equipments in there and place not even for 2 years yet.. and when they did the upgrading, they actually did not uproot the current equipment but added more stuff and even laid flooring for kids and adult to play, roller blade or even scoot around. But what interests me most are the pull up bars at the exercise corner.. I can finally get my arms in shape again.. and free too.

Ape and his keeper

posted by constance

Photobucket

I was tempted to take this photograph last year when we were in the zoo, in conjunction with my girl’s kindy graduation. An ape had just done a painting job, of which ‘she’ ( i think its a she cos she had a young ape with her) did her own creative ‘modern art’ painting for zoo visitors to watch. Afterwards, she gets on the tram with her young one still being cradled and the zoo keeper that watches over her. It was so hilarious because before the tram made a move, she had not sat properly on the tram. The zookeeper had actually nagged at her to sit properly with both her legs together in the tram instead of leaving them hanging out on the tram as she did at first. She shifted it slightly at first when the keeper said once. Then shifted more as he chided her.. and properly when he nagged her for real.. lol it was really funny..

Got to back up..

posted by constance

I have so much on my desktop. Jobs, letters, photos, songs and more. I don’t know how on earth did I actually get to keep so many stuffs. And I always worry that one day my hard disk will give up on me and all the precious photos are gone in a blip. I always tell myself that I will back them up soon but I always procrastinate. I saw ads on the papers that so many things are on offer, to clear old stocks to make way for the new. I am tempted to check out the promotional usb drives which is now getting cheaper and cheaper compared with 5-6 years back. Nowadays computer peripherals are all very cheap and accessible. Those little thumbdrives are ‘a dime in a dozen!’ and you can get all sorts, patterns, colours in any shape you want. I have a cute magnum ice cream thumbdrive, very cute and very adorable, shaped exactly like the ice cream, except it is in miniature form.. even hard disk drives are all very cheap and they come in colours like pink for ladies too!

Sg Housing and new rules…

posted by constance

Singapore is a place where living becomes tougher and tougher. Everything is going up. The COE for cars is now still at the range of roughly $58k to $67k. In case you do not know what the COE is, it stands for Certificate of Entitlement. That means a paper certification that you MUST get before you are allowed to purchase a car. Yes, and on top of that, you STILL HAVE TO pay for your car. So you can imagine how high the price of a car is, when you add up COE and Car Price. But of course, without this, it will be difficult to control the people buying cars in Singapore, since land is scarce and you can’t have too many cars or no one will be able to move at all! Hence, the public transport is always being encouraged and upgraded to make being mobile less of a problem.

Then lately, there are changes to housing too. Homes are getting very expensive and there are new rules or things you have to watch out for before you are allowed to buy any HDB flat (govt flat). The latest is that you must not have owned any properties in any part of the world(also applies to PRs), besides in Singapore itself. If you do have a home already, you must be prepared to dispose of it, by the next 6 months after buying a govt HDB. Why? Because they want to make sure that if you need a govt flat, you must really need a home and not already have other homes. It does not make sense for one to buy a flat when he or she has a home already, thus is not eligible to get an HDB flat.

The most recent, is that if you have a private property, it is best that you do not speculate in it. In the past, a person may have bought a private property. 6 months later, he sells it at a higher price to another person as the demand for that development is high. Therefore, the seller earns some good money within 6 months even though he may have to pay some penalty in terms of mortgage, etc, but the profits are still there. Lots of property speculation has been done and now the new rules to stamp it out is that, if you sell your private property within a year, you have to pay stamp duty of 16% which is very high. Keep to sell for 2 years, pay 12%, and lesser for 3 and 4 years. So selling your property will set you back by high stamp duty tax so it is best to keep them for at least 4 years. I wonder how many new development launches are going to be held back because many people would be watching the market instead of buying or selling anything for the time being. And I wonder how this will affect the people in construction jobs industry. Will that mean that homes built incomplete will take a longer time now? Because if there are no takers, everything is going slow and no fish biting. And how will that affect homes in property then.. I do wonder.

No Pets Please

posted by constance

For the upteenth time, my kids bugged me to buy them a pet dog. Sometimes I, myself is tempted to because I do love animals. BUT when I thing about the commitment you have to put up with, I become doubtful getting one. First, we do not have a house with garden that runs around it. Second, because of our tight working schedule, it doesn’t make sense to keep the dog at home for a long time.. and I do not like the idea of having to come home and pick up after the dog, after picking up the kids…sigh. And if you want to prevent all these, you may have to send your pet for a dog training course to be toilet trained, and more. What about maintenance cost like food, medical, hygiene and things you never know pop up.. Guess I do not have to reconsider after listing all these, eh.

Aging Woes

posted by constance

I went to Watsons the other day looking to replenish my facial wash. I stumbled into this brand -Elancyl and smiled to myself. Not too sure if the youths uses it, but in my days, we were all into this particular brand. Young as we were, we still wanted to have slim legs, fat free bodies, tone, lean, cellulite free thighs and most importantly, something that can promise to provide a premanent stretch mark cure in the most indefinite span of time. Do teens have stretch marks? I do not know because at that time, frankly I know I do not really know what they were, yet followed the flock of teens to check out items to get rid of it! We read about cellulites and know about the dimple cream but now that I have kids, I UNDERSTAND what stretch marks are, especially during and post pregnancy. And now I know for sure why my friend who has a pair of twins never would want to go swimming because she showed me her stretch marks that just won’t ever go away… poor thing.
