My Funny Girls

posted by constance

I want to be actively involved in my kids’ life while they are still young and grown-up, if possible. It is a lifelong journey as a Mom, i suppose. Ever since I started work, I felt that I have missed some part of their growing up and each time I spend with them now is so precious. Under my eyes, they have blossomed and progressed so much. And being with them together can be filled with so much emotions for me. I try to bring them out for short lunches, marketing, library whenever I have some time. Kids are very demanding, talkative and my kids are very active. But they also shower you with unconditional love too. It makes my heart feel warm when I am with them although at times they can also test your patience too… lol

Look at these pics I took of them recently while on a treat during lunch hours. They can be great buddies with each other but sometimes can be really be like sworn enemies too..

Both of them can be VERY animated and expressive when they are together… Lea, although younger sometimes acts more mature while elder sis Rae can be really so funny and daft acting. In the pics above, I caught Rae showing disgust over Lea’s love for finger-licking-good cheese fries. Rae, upon finding out I took the pics, felt embarresed cos I showed her the first two pics… But it was good fun indeed!

Greetings, one after another

posted by constance

Just two days away, and it is going to be a New Year.

2011, and for me, no more new resolutions unless I know I can fulfilled them. Beginnings of each year are always a busy time for many. Of course it all starts during year-end from Christmas then New Year, followed by Lunar New Year. Lots of people are spending money on gifts. Don’t forget, right after or in some years previously, Valentine’s Day fell on Lunar New Year too. Some couples just couldn’t decide if they should spend Chinese New Year with family, friends or spend Valentine’s Day with their partner.

It can be quite difficult to choose and one certainly has to budget for Valentine gifts as well as Lucky Red Packets. A friend of mind likes to look for her gifts early, just like she did for Christmas gifts in October.. two months ahead of the actually Christmas! Now, she is already surfing online for Valentine’s Day prezzie, among which she recommended her clueless friends tips of getting customizable men gifts at Personal Creations so that one does not have to look far and wide and grief over what to get for their spouse.

I haven’t celebrated Valentine’s Day for ages…lol  Perhaps there are still some romantic married couples who does that but not for me anymore.. even a wish would be rare.. what about you.

Sounds of Grace

posted by constance

I like the sounds of windchimes alot. Not all windchimes sound lovely however. I believe it is all part of the material that it is made off. I remember listening to one windchime, made of metal and the sounds is as if you are in standing in an open space of spanning-wide green grass, just like in The Sounds of Music musical. The higher quality windchimes are very melodious whereas those made from cheaper materials of plastic does not sound nice at all. I once bought a glass like (i think it’s glass..) windchime years ago and attached it to the fan that comes with ceiling lights. It might sound dangerous but it is properly secured and when the fan is turned on, the sound is just so wonderful, giving me a peaceful ambience like in a church. I wonder about the history of windchimes and if it was created for any purpose.. Did you know?

What Does Christmas Mean to You.

posted by constance

This is my first quiet Christmas. A Christmas without the frills but just a special occasion, The Birth of Christ to mark in my calender. No Christmas trees, no decor, no fancy food in restaurants, no party. Just for the kids, present to cheer them up. It was made possible because of some extra loving people who understands what we are going through and also Godma and my Sis always spoils my kids. Godma calls it guilt money because she is so far away in ‘busy-city’. Sis had been helping out the past few months and even sent over some stuff before the school reopens in about a week and a half. On Godma’s behalf, I got the girls some needed stuff that I had been putting off this year. Like some much needed new PJs, school necessities from their book list, school uniforms, shoes.

I try not to look at the never-ending shopping ads in the papers because they are all so tempting. One also can get really distracted while surfing like a banner or an advert of some brooch jewelry gifts for mom. At times like that I always remind myself that such special gifts will have to wait till the right occasion and celebration since I am not one who splurges spontaneously. In the meantime, this Christmas, I feel blessed to have my good friends and my dear sister who recently pitched in to help. Thank you and May you have a Blessed and Wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Happy Winter Solstice, Christmas Wish to follow

posted by constance

Happy Winter Solstice, Everyone.  In case you want to know what Winter Solstice is all about, click here. I made the tang yuens from glutinuous rice flour last year with my kids in multi colours last year.

Today, however is a simple day, minimally done. I didn’t ‘hand-roll’ my tang yuens this year since I had been busy at work and too tired anyway.

So I got plain tang yuens from the grocers that comes in frozen commercial packs in mini pink and white ones. And I bought extra large ones with fillings to supplement. My kids enjoy these desserts and even on any normal day, I’d buy the frozen and ready to cook ones for them. I usually get the peanut fillings as they aren’t into sesame and not into the red beans one either. But they mostly love just plain types.

Halfway through eating some, Lea froze…

“what is that sharp sharp thing in my mouth?” she spat out on the floor *mum almost shrieking with alarm* and among that gluey ball of ‘stuff’, she took out a white hard small object..

“It’s my tooth!!! My front tooth dropped!!!” and she gave me a wide eye look… almost in tears.. ” now I cannot chew..” I consoled her not to worry cos she don’t really chew with front teeth but using the molars behind.

It was a funny sight, really. She had already lost one front tooth two weeks ago and it had been taking a LONG time to come out. It’s only out.. perhaps about less than a quarter of it.

So, now she is exclaiming.. and when school starts, everyone’s going to laugh at me…sigh sigh sigh.

So you can make a wild guess just three days before Christmas, what she is wishing for. This song is just right for her.

 All I want for Christmas..

Everybody stops
and stares at me
These two teeth are
gone as you can see
I don’t know just who
to blame for this catastrophe!
But my one wish on Christmas Eve
is as plain as it can be!

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth!

Always Review

posted by constance

There is no subsitute for quality products. The chinese have a saying: You Pay Peanuts, You Get Monkeys. It is because one can never compare the price of a quality product with a cheaper one, thus of lesser quality. In Singapore many products need the approval of many different bodies that checks and scrutinize it for safety for use or consumption. When a friend asked another to buy a certain medication from another country, it is extremely important for one to know if it is safe and approved or risk ones own health. An old friend told me that she was recommended a kind of product and told me that there has been people who said it is safe to buy. However, I reminded her not only to ask about the product but also do an online check on this symbiotropin reviews by many sources and people thoroughly before any decision. That was a week ago and I hope she has done it because I am just keen to know.

Motorhomes can be Fun

posted by constance

Living in Singapore can be very stressful. Bills to pay, without an end. Of course it is the same everywhere, except to a different degree. Singapore is a small island republic. There isn’t much land so when you are tired and stress, you can’t go anywhere else except to go away to another country, a neighbouring one. In Malaysia, one can take a drive to another state, enjoy a different view, landscaping and experience a varied culture of different lifestyle and habits. To do this, an excellent way to do would be to own a motorhome. Why are there no motorhome in sight? Is it because we do not have qualified people to handle motorhome repairs and accessoriesof it’s kind? Has anyone ever wanted to do such a business? Not only can we drive our motorhomes within a country but one can also take our ‘home’ further like up north to Thailand and subsequently drive to other countries like Myanmar, China, Nepal, India and so forth. Wouldn’t you like that? I would!

Walkman versus MP3s, I like former

posted by constance

I know we are moving away from the walkman stereo age. iPods, mobile phones that one can download songs into and all that mp3s, 4s and more digital device for your entertainment leisure are all popping up month after month. I, myself do not own an mp3 even though it has been in the market for sometime. I rather be playing my two decade old Sony Walkman on headphones because I already have all my favourite artistes on cds. This is something I enjoy and I certainly will procrastinate if you ask me to download songs in mp3 format or buy them online. I hope things will be easier to get, like a package of these songs in a small memory card because I certainly do not know if the mp3 song I download will be effectively a good audio file. And with CDs, I am assured when I buy them off the music store. Do you thing music stores will fold when people do downloads now?

Just Blogging

posted by constance

Now that a local supermart that I go to everyday has closed for redevelopment, I have made the changes and pop by to the local wet market instead. There are lots of gems in this market of course, just that it takes a longer time to move around with the different levels between shops and bigger ‘township’. The other difference is that there is no air-conditioning but I’ve long adjusted to that since we stop air-conditioning at home when utility bills went up, up and up. And the latest I heard, the petrol going on it’s 20yr high meant the next quarter utility bill to be at it’s 20year high too! *thumbs-down*. One consolation is that I save on car park fees, an ideal Singaporean situation.

I collect kilos of beansprouts from a very masculine lady and her ‘girl-friend’. They are both very accomodating and she arranges my sprouts with this dry provision uncle for me when I go late in the weekends when they have already closed for the day. I then walk to the other end to get other stuffs. Last Wednesday, I decided to bring my two girls along as a marketing cum brunch outing since it is the school holiday and they were really bored at home. And at the car park, the girls cheekily fooled along a life-size banner that were thrown at the back lane. So, I grab my camera and shot this.

I bet they had great fun.

My Walkman is an Antique now

posted by constance

I decided to clean out the cupboard today. I needed to find space for junks which had accumulated in my daughter’s cabinet. With her new school books, I have no choice but to clear her existing shelf so that new books can fit in. While clearing and cleaning, I saw an old CD player I had not used for ages. I remembered how I had brought it along with me each time I moved thrice to a new flat in the past 15 years. I thought of giving it to my daughter so she can play some CDs of mine. Her first reaction was Cool, but after some scrutinizing, she went: “Mummy, does it have wireless speakers with it or bluetooth connectivity?” “Whhhaaaattt!!”, I went? I don’t know if I should laugh or cry… Talk about kids of the current age! Lucky thing she didn’t try to look for a sim card in the battery compartment…
