Different Age, Different Skin

posted by constance

Teenagers are so different from adults. Although you see then in the puberty stage, the many medication that are used for them should not be the same as those who have become a full-fledged adults. Adult skin is so much different. Teenagers in their puberty have their hormones on a swing so don’t apply what you apply on your skin to one who is having acne problems. Adult should always go for adult acne treatments because our skin problems are mostly associated with food, environment and other factors whereas teenagers are because of their hormonal changes into an adult.. like the Butterfly. I wonder if they have any ‘time capsule’ thingy that lets our skin stay young like teens? hrrmmmph!

Why I Loved Tan

posted by constance

I do admit. I like being tanned more than being a ‘snow white’ kind of complexion. But tanned as the word express, it is not just any tan. It has to be a certain shade of warm brown, a little golden and certainly mustn’t be too dark. I do not want to look like those who are tanned because of being expose to sun too long in the construction area. Now you know why I just do not do hair colour because they reminds me of sun exposed hair colour. So getting tanned is a difficult task, to have. And to maintain.

I was in a tanning frenzy about maybe 15 years ago. I searched all over stores that sells sun tanning oil or lotion that would give me the best tanning results. Mind you, NOT EVERY brand gives you the same tanning degree AND you certainly have to coordinate with how long you stay in the sun, and which part of the day. I was so into it, I’d be at the pool EVERY SUNDAY morning, not to swim but just to make sure the lovely colour stays that way.

Golden tan is so hard to achieve and the results may end up looking like a jaundicy kind of tan to Asians because of the yellow skin base. So you have to work out a perfect timing that exceeds just a little bit more brown to make yellow less sallowy..

Oh well, you’d know if you played with colours in art like I do…lol

But one of the best way to get a tan is to use a lotion… a self tanning lotion. no need to roast yourself in our hot climate. No worries about getting skin cancer. Searching for best tanning bed lotion is an ideal method. I used a lotion from Bodyshop before and the colour was really good. Not sure if they still have that now… so long ago. Like all real tan, the colours eventually fade. Just don’t stain your clothes and make sure it is really dry so be prepared to be in the buff for a while… LOCK YOURSELF UP YOUR ROOM with windows closed and curtains pulled closed or STAY IN THE BATH.. till you are dry.

No, I don’t belong to the SPG (Sarung Party Girl) types who gets a tan for social networking… I needed my tan because I needed to cover some pigmentation and all that ‘unworthy cent marks’ I get from extreme outdoor games in my younger days playing ‘kali tuay’, ‘ajinomoto’, ‘cathing’, hide and seek and more. I am always in the ‘all-stunt-dive’ after tripping over some kids’ slipper, skidding over some pebbles, falling off my bicycle for riding over many many kerbs, or just perhaps I have two right feet ( i am a leftie so i don’t have two left feet) clumsiness. Of course I realized later on that getting tanned made my pigmentation even worse so I needed to stay out of the sun thus opt for tanning lotion instead.

But for now, no more tanning, no more sun because now age spots matter.. I need to get creams for age spots…

‘Stuff’ other children has

posted by constance

A chirpy happy voice on the phone at work greeted me last week, two days before the school closes for the weekend.. My 6-year old told me the school gave them a form to fill in for the Oct/Nov activity which was optional. “It’s a school pyjama-camp fun only for the kindy kids!”, my younger one spoke so loud on the phone, I almost could have been deaf by her eagerness and on the top of the world voice.

I told her to wait till I was home for me to read what it was all about first. I didn’t want to get her hopes dashed… after all, all field trips/events for them is always tagged with… a price…

I was right, it came with a BIG pricetag. $200 for a slumber party, some indoor gym playtime at JWT and other day time activity like crafts, movies and fast food. To you and some other parents, $200 may be nothing, no need to bat an eyelid. But to me, I simply cannot afford it. I had just painfully dug too deep and paid about $150 for tickets for her graduation show and family day to be held at the zoo in early Nov. How would I be able to look for another $200 for just a one night out and activity again. I simply do nothave enough already as it is… How disappointed she would be getting.

My heart wrenching.. she cried pitifully, with big teardrops and loud sobs. “why can’t I go…, all my classmates are going to be there.. but i won’t ask to buy anything else and i wont want any christmas gifts..” sobbing loudly…. Other kids have STUFFS! They have playstations, nintendo ds, wii, xbox, iphone, iPad, art classes, they go on long holiday trips, stay in hotels.. the list goes on!

YES, STUFFS! I HATE STUFFS! ALL THE STUFFS OTHER PARENTS SPOIL THEIR KIDS WITH, and my kids are now thinking mummy is so bad because we do not have STUFFS!

So, please, if you are a parent and I know you want to give all you can to your kids. But do you know what you do to the parents who cannot afford to buy them stuffs? Are we bad parents? Kids eye their friends’ material possesions and feels. Even if I place ads on my blogs or join the highest paying affiliate program I can find, I doubt it will teach them the value of money.. Best is not to encourage such STUFFS..

I won’t go into much details… but I took a good hour explaining to a dejected 6-year old how money is so hard to earn and how $200 is a lot of money. And how family time and love is better than stuffs. Even if she accepted this week, next week.. there will be more days to come when “STUFFS” from friends will make her go green with envy… sigh

My Little Decorator

posted by constance

cupcake girl

I was uploading and backing up some pics when I came across this one. A girl and a cake. Oh, I mean, my girl and her cake. She always insists that she wants to decorate her own cake whenever I am in the kitchen baking and decorating. So I normally just let her do what she wants. Pretty pleased with her cake, she asked me to take this photo of her with hers. I can’t say no, can I? Sometimes she eats all the chocolate chips leaving me little left for my decors… and yes, she ate more of it than do the decor…

She named hers Pink Snowman Cake…

Phantom, not Phenterm

posted by constance

10 full days to a frightful night. Phantom Nite, that is. Well it is a theme party that a friend organized to celebrate Halloween. Scary costumes will be something everyone is challenged to go for. She told me she wants to have a ‘bloody’ ball of a time as she is leaving Singapore for good. Oh well, I was supposed to pass on this message to a few other friends of mine. Few of them are on a tight health regime.. Yes, dieting, as usual.. they cannot comphrehend me when I told them Phantom Nite. They could only register phentermine because it is already etched into their die-die dieting crazy brain. Well, I told them, don’t bother with all that slim-slim notion because horrors are best depicted with more flesh, blood and no one’s gonna bother if you have that extra rubber in your tummy. In fact, this will be best for a frightful night. Maybe they might want to show off that belly stretch marks for special effect too.

Research First

posted by constance

I enjoy reading about reviews of products from health websites. Sometimes we pick up some knowledge in certain ingredients to look out for, especially those which are bad for our health. We may enjoy listening to reviews about many products from neighbours and friends but online reviews are more educational as you can do a little research before deciding if anything is right or wrong.

It cannot be compared with heartlanders whom may have little knowledge in products, being biased and sometimes they twist and turn stories just for that moment of attention. One must take into serious consideration especially when buying health supplements as there are factors that may trigger some symptoms of health risk. Hence, before you pop by the local store buying any new products like a diet pill, it is always good to just read up any diet pill reviews about the ingredients or check with your local doctor if it is safe for your consumption. We only live once.

Healthy Eating

posted by constance

The grocers are selling so much fruits at low cost lately. Grapes, Dragon fruits, Kiwis, Plums, Nectarines, so much more. I love Dragon fruits and find it very refreshing. Kiwis are less than two dollars for 6 nos and that is really cheap, though it is not the NZ variety. Fruits are good for our health. They can be taken like a detoxification program for our body although some would prefer to drink water for at few days and sustain from food. For me, I still prefer to eat more fruits than to suppress my appetite. The natural sugar and fibre is similar to appetite suppressants that work and you don’t really need to go hungry by dieting. Try it. Even the fibres in bananas are rich in vitamins, and gives you energy if you are going to be active for the day.

If only I had time

posted by constance

The busier I am the more things I want to do. Baking, spending time with my kids, reading in and out of the library and painting. Sadly, I do not have such luxury of a time for all of them but I try to put in effort for all of the above except the chance to paint, again. Painting is my greatest destress mode because one can actually put in all your emotions into that artwork, depending on the day’s mood. I remember while in school, my art lecturers would turn on a slideshow of all the greastest painters/sculptors and I’d go ooh and aah over them. Paintings by Wassily Kandinsky have always been my favourite. If there’s more time and off days, I’d probably like to go to the art museam and loiter around for hours. Oh so boring am I, huh.

Kids Do Worry

posted by constance

Lea is finally going to P1 next year. Time flies. She was just a baby yesterday. Or so, I thought. She had already celebrated her 6th birthday in July and this afternoon, she told me between tears that the class did not sing a birthday song for her on that day, even though she brought goodie bags for all her classmates.. oh.. I didn’t know that. And she must have felt really sad and buried it so deep that only now did she talked about it.

To cheer her up, I told her when she goes to P1, she would be able to celebrate it in her new school, with her new friends and what more, her sister will be around to oversee things for her. And when the talk about primary school crops up, she worries that she will miss her school bus! One worry after another, can you believe it. I told her that I will especially see to it that her sis will wait up for her before getting into the schoolbus. Anyway, her sis will also be happy to have company on the bus as she dislike one girl who is such a bully. And with little sis together, two in numbers is better than one alone. Lea then flexed her muscles to show me that she has enough muscles to scare any bullies off them. How brave of her! One doesn’t need to look for a muscle builder since I’ve got Super Lea now. Having a sister going to the same school in the same schoolbus certainly is a happy occasion. And I will not have to worry about different schedule anymore.

Serums for Acne

posted by constance

Facials are luxurious. And painful too. I remember how my face reacts to it the first time. You also get people who tries to squeeze your acnes out using a tool. Those are terribly painful. I do not like that at all, because since young, my mom always told me never to meddle with your acne unless you want to have a mark there, forever. That scared the hell out of me. The first mark I had was not from a pimple.. it was from a Chicken pox. The delicious feeling one gets scratching when that odd chicken pox is beckoning you. Anyways, I found out that besides creams and lotions, there are such a thing as acne serums too. How peculiar. I always thought that serums are ermm meant for very delicate skins and hair. Kind of like repairing something. Does serums repair the acne scar? I’m so ignorant, of course. Maybe someone actually tried one before?
