Our stall front has only limited equipment. Our preparation is done in the main part, the kitchen and this kitchen is located in the middle of the shophouse, right after the airwell, very much like the Straits Chinese kind of home. Our stocks are also stored in one of the two fridge/freezer so if to stock up, I have to run in very quickly and back. Sometimes my ‘Boss’ chef is busy with preparation of his ‘mise-en place’ so when I need to call out to him, I have to yell from the small window that divides the front and the back of the shophouse. This, soon got me very frustrated as I have to do that very often when we have customers in and out all the time. Months after doing this same thing and yelling out for orders, I decided to get a doorbell instead. Well, to make things easy, all I need is to press the remote that I have and the main doorbell unit placed on top of the fridge will sound ‘Ding-Dong’ very loudly, TWICE. That certainly solves everything and soon he’ll be on the way to the front. And I don’t have to use my voice as much as I am CERTAIN it is getting thinner and thinner and soon, I’ll lose my voice. LOL

Last week, Ah Boy and I went into a shop selling all types of lighting. We wanted to look for lighting that blinks or has some nice effects. We thought of those fairy lights that most people use for festive occasions but those are not really the type that are hard wearing. Those probably needed more change of bulbs often. We saw some new lights that do not use the normal bulb nor fluoresant types. In fact they are LED lights and is expected to be brighter and last longer too. Nowadays, there are more LED lights available, even in torches and campfire lights or lanterns. I saw a cool looking one but it turned out that it was a pond light
and is more for outdoor area. One thing that has been on my mind is those round ball of light like those you used to see in the 70s or the type hanging in a discoteque. I wonder if I can find some of these mini ones to hang from a small counter top? Can lightings be bought online via post? Any idea?
My girls have started their school holidays. It will be for almost a month. Yesterday was the school’s Founders Day and they had a picnic to commemorate this occasion, followed by a Parents Meet Teachers Session. I didn’t attend since the timing is not right for me and I was at work. I told my girls that even it is holiday, it would be good to do some revision and I hope she does. I do intend to bring my eldest to the movies one of these days but I can’t find anything good in the cinemas that we can watch together. Not too sure if I should bring both together or not. Both tend to look for the washroom every now and then so I must make sure that we are seated closer to the exit signs or washrooms for easy access. My girls hardly go to the cinema, compared with me in my younger times. Perhaps it is because everything is now accessible on the tube or the DVD and cheaper than watching a movie in the cinemas. There are a few screenings in 3D now so I wonder if i should bring the girls for those.
I wonder if it makes sense to convert an insurance policy. I feel that my insurance policy is not really working hard in the investment part and in the past two years, profits have been far and almost nought. Those money placed in our CPF in fact earns a higher interest rate than those that were drawn for investment. I messaged my agent to send me some term life insurance quotes because I feel that I have lost faith in mine. I really must go read all the clauses, rules and etc too. I wonder if the surrender value is good.. chances are, nope. Two acquaintances I know actually surrendered their policies last year! Should I do the same? On the other hand, to buy a new policy is very expensive expecialy when you get older! Hmm, maybe leave it alone then.
Sometimes life hits you differently when you least expect it. From afar, I saw a male friend few days ago. He was a good friend of mine. In fact, he was my best friend’s ex-spouse. They had broken up two years ago because of some differences after being married for about 7 years. I found it hard to believe when it happened. I was affected just as much because we are close friends. She had sought depression treatment after the breakup and till now she sometimes get to a low emotional level when certain things trigger it. I wish there is something I can do. She now reads alot, to overcome many of her troubles and most of what she reads give her some comfort to her. Many of her readings are Buddhism teachings and Confucious’ wisdom phrases and philosophical stuff. I hope they help to ease all her troubles and time to heal her pain.
My ex colleague had just given birth last week. She posted a short birth announcements on her facebook profile. With that, days later, photos of the cute chubby girl were posted. Can you imagine how we longed to view these newborns but there were no facebook and not even internet connection yet? We had to wait patiently till the new mother prints these photos and these were done by developing negatives! Boy oh Boy! And we had to spent a little printing each copy for our friends and relatives too. Now, with facebook, upload and everyone you authorize is able to view them! Technology really is superb! Even with Twitter, you can even let your family know if you’ve fed junior or burp him or her? And I know of many grandparents who uses IT too.
I know Christmas is half a year away. But I do so love to shop for gifts for family even when it is not the festive season yet. I remembered how I looked high and low for personalized gifts for my best friends because just any gift won’t do. I wonder if my friends actually think that way before they purchase a prezzie? The present I really dislike would be photo frames, those small ones with bears or some illustrations. I received too many of those when I worked in the office where there were as many as 16 of us, artists and designers in one department. And those were just ‘convenient’ presents.. Oh but I love to wrap presents and place them under the X’mas tree! I just love to see the delightful expressions of my two girls and how they try to guess and shake them before they can open it!
Sigh. I simply do not have much time to be with my girls nowadays. I go out in the wee hours when they are still in dreamland. I wonder what they are doing at home when I am at work. I come back only to take a bath before heading off to the other workplace so there isn’t much time either. I wished I still had my 3G phone so I could see them when I chat. I wonder if it makes sense to install one of those wireless security systems that comes with cctv. I do not want to get those that need too much wiring so I guess I have to check online to see what is available and if my local telcos provide those service. Maybe I can then get a wave while chatting to my girls on the phone. Kinda like keeping an eye on them too.
My youngest daughter is always on her pranks. There was once when I was taking a bath, she held a conversation with me from my room to where I was in the shower over the top of our voice. I told her I could hardly hear her since I have the shower running.. She then said, “It’s ok, Mummy. I will wait in your room and tell you when you come out in a while.” I told her ok and continued with my shower. When I finished, I called out to her, “Hey, you still there?” She answered, “Yes Mummy, lying on your bed!”
Guess what I saw when I came out from the bathroom? I thought my eyes played some tricks on me.. I saw ‘her’ but in a weird way, lying at the foot of my bed… There ‘she’ was.
Look at the pic I took in amazement! Wonder if she will be even more creatively tricky when she is older?
Tiger year. Many of my friends, including myself sigh. We all felt that this year is just not a good year. Few of my friends met wth small accidents and various personal problems. However, I do see that there are quite a few couples who seemed to be having kids in this year alone, which is a pleasant surprise. I received several photo birth announcements a month ago. More on the way in the next few months. In the previous years, many would think twice about having a girl in this year. However, I find that quite a few of my friends are all born in the Tiger year. Many of them travelled far and wide and are successful in what they do. Top it all, they are all females. They work hard and they do play hard too. Very independant and firm in their own decision.
So, there isn’t all bad about this Tiger year. Start a family, by all means. Tiger children are bountiful joy, I am sure. My friends have proved it right.
