His views and duty to the country to keep it drug free was spurred when he was enlisted for national service and his when serving national service duty. Singapore takes a very strict stance against drug with death by hanging as the penalty, if caught in possession. Nowadays, children in kindy and primary school are being taught about crime, drugs and even nutrition as part of their civics and moral education subjects instead of the usual academic subjects.
