Old is Gold

I was in Bukit Timah Plaza few days ago looking for some kitchen equipment at a local store. Each time I am there, I can’t believe this place is still bustling with so much activity after so many decades and even though many new malls have sprung up all over Singapore. There are also many employment agencies and individual ‘departmental stores’ that look very 70’s or early 80’s in here. This is the place where I love to search for unique hair clips as well as little gifts and souvenirs. Even though the mall is so dated and shops look terribly worn out, their rental is cheap and many shop owners do not have to price their products expensive like in modern malls around Orchard. You can find some nice luggages, children’s bikes and trikes and even that odd piece of fitness equipment too. On the top floor where the old fashioned hawker centre is, are also shops where you can get lots of bath, kitchen and various towels. Perhaps it is age that has made me appreciate old shopping malls like these compared with spunky new ones!
