Spring

posted by constance

It’s about two weeks away to CNY. Anyone done any Spring Cleaning yet? There’s 14 days more if it’s any consolation.. Perhaps a general cleaning or tidy up the house.. I’m trying to do some but I’m just very tired sometimes.. I can only manage a little a day, if I don’t feel too tired. I wish I had someone to help me polish my tiles free.. what a joke but I do wish for it. They look so lifeless and dull. Even the wood flooring needs polishing but I hardly have time. Maybe I should buy those floor liquid for mopping and polish at one go. Everyone must be busy in the next two weeks either cleaning or shopping in anticipation for the Chinese New Year, right? Got time to blog? Wish you all an early Chinese New Year greetings. Gong Xi Fa Cai!!

Convenient Era

posted by constance

Everything is so convenient nowadays. From carparks, bills, electronic road pricing, even that dreaded piece of fine for parking on double yellow lines can be arranged to be paid online or using those standalone kiosks (AXS machines) found all over Singapore. In fact, I don’t even have to look for an agent/insurance company when my car insurance is due. I can pay my insurance online or via AXS as well. That really saves me a lot of time and cut down on lots of customer service at counters. I found that on our AXS machines, you can even book and pay for the NTUC chalets and even the BBQ pits in our neighbour hood parks and East Coast too. Great!

The only grouse I have not is the EZ Link cards which I would love to use for car parks but then this is so new, many car park systems only accept the old cash cards and not EZ-Link cards. So what am I gonna do with them?

Scents that brought back the old times

posted by constance

I did a mad dash for some clothes for my girls on Wednesday. I am on very tight budget but I figured the girls really are in need of new clothes for Chinese New Year. I hadn’t bought them for quite a while and I felt really bad. As I walked past the cosmetics’ counter, I thought I had a whiff of something familiar. A scent that I used to love so very much. It was definitely Davidoff’s cool water. How nostalgic, I felt. I traced back my steps and hovered by the Davidoff cigars and saw that they had a nice gift package of Davidoff scents.. sigh. Free smells are good. I can’t afford to get them.. I also used to be a great fan of Escape.. gosh, those were the days. Guess I just have to dream about days when I was carefree and spent on anything I wanted.. Oh! someone please don’t break my dream bubble..

Uni at the other side of the world, right here

posted by constance

When I was a teenager, I always thought how life would be like at the university. I had the hunger to learn many things then. I wanted to take up many different courses available but there were so limited courses available for me. Going overseas to the United States was a dream which I knew will not be fulfilled but their study programs and courses were so much more interesting. We had not much experience nor access to computers then, because they were too expensive and broadband or internet connection were rare terms we had not even heard of then. Now, we are blessed with high speed broadbands with choices to choose from different operators and price packages.

These days, one need not have to go all the way to the other side of the world to take up some degree programs that you had been wishing for. And you can actually do it right from home via an online university that was founded by 19 US governors. If you worry about disadvantage of not being able to access to their full range of library materials or books, how about this – they even have a central online library for students as well as a third party online textbook purchasing site! So now, what are you waiting for? A wide range of online degree programs are waiting for you. Get everything done online, cut the posted mail lag, cut the inconvenience of transporting to and fro your university and best of all, all can be done in the comforts of your own home or office.

Sleepy and Yawning Early

posted by constance

I used to sleep after midnight or watch Hong Kong serials through the night and doze off and getting up few times a night. However now, I can’t last longer than 10pm. My eyelids will get heavy before 10pm and sometimes I don’t even know what I write in my blogs and etc. The girls are usually in their dreamland (Candyland and Barneyland, as they call it) but for myself, I sleep like a log! Too tired, exhausted and wish I had more than 24 hours in a day so I can pretty much do more stuff and blog more… sigh.. I’m yawning and I haven’t had my daily ‘fix’ of Bejewelled yet… sheesh..

So, night night everyone. Hush Hush Sleep Baby Sleep..

Apple Cider is actually good for you

posted by constance

I had some problems with my teeth ever since I gave birth to my two girls. It’s either I didn’t have enough calcium or something but the alignment of my teeth is no longer the same as before. My upper rows of teeth do not sit in front of the sets below and I was never like that before. With such a wide space between the upper set and the lower ones, I am not able to enjoy my sunflower seeds nor the black and red ‘kuacis’ for Lunar New Year. And anything that is too thin will just slip because there is no more grip unless I bite them using my molars! Absurd! I wonder if that was because of too much Apple Cider Vinegar that I used to mix with warm honey? I took these a lot in the past because I heard that it is good to wash away oil from food in our systems and prevention of heart ailments with it’s natural acidic composition. And I also heard from my friend that she took it to complement her weight loss diet. It’s very sour thus I mix it with warm honeyed water but my friend can take them just without any dilution! Salute!

Mr Lazy Fella

posted by constance

Ah Boy asked me if the Egoderm tube on my bath shelving is within expiry date.. Err.. I don’t really know actually. I had that tube there like forever! I used it before but not much of it and it was still a full tube. When you squeeze the cream out, it had a slight yellow tinge so I can’t remember if it was meant to be like that or because it was past expiry shelf life! I told him that he better get his own new tube or something like that or he might face with a risk of getting some new rash with this cream now.. He needed to have his eczema treatment but was too lazy to go out and buy. In the end, he just popped in an anti puritic tablet! How lazy can one get, huh? I then sneaked in and throw that tube away.. It is about time, anyway.

Pharmacies and more

posted by constance

I enjoy going to Watsons, Guardians and Unity. Not only do they sell lots of medical products, the range of cosmetics and toiletries are just awesome. During Christmas time, you also get to see nice little gifts and their prices are always reasonable. I normally go to Unity if I want to get prescribed medication from the pharmacist as their price is the best among the three. Watsons are great for toiletries and snacks. Guardian has always been the place to look for both medical and gifts and they also carry a good range of baby products. Once in a while, I like to stock up on medical supplies like gauzes, ointments, antiseptic products while hubby goes for his Glucosamine and Vitamin pills. The only time I go near to any bottled tablets or pills are those of weight loss products! Okay, I’m just kidding but I have tried sugar blockers before. They gave me a headache because I really need my energy level in the mornings..

Sentosa Attractions

posted by constance

It’s getting more and more exciting! It’s only days before RWS is opening. There’s going to be lots of activity in Sentosa, lots of new hotels, F&B outlets and many other fun stuff, including Universal Studios.. I wonder if the theme park will be open for Chinese New Year.. The kids will love it. Casino will not be opened that soon unless they get some approval I guess. My best bet is that they might (might) make it for the Lunar New Year. I’m not going near that territory, not even with a ten foot pole! LOL

Employment prospects looks bright with the opening and later on in the first or second quarter, another major Integrated resort, Marina Sands will be scheduled to open too. That will bring in more jobs for Singapore. Already, many people are being hired and trained for both IRs. The only downside is that there aren’t many employees to go around in the F&B industry already so what’s going to happen when more new F&B outlets and hotels are opened? I am curious what kind of pre-employment screening is involved in this industry.. Will the shortage of manpower bring up salary scale? Hard Rock Hotel in Sentosa is slated to open very soon and I know of a friend who just quit before it is officially opened! Perhaps he was being poached already?

No Need Dumb-Bells, Better Than A Gym

posted by constance

A little insight on what I do each day at work. I carry LOADS and LOADS of pails of water to fill up the stock pot, the pails for soaking rags, pails for soaking cutlery and more pails of water to soak vegetables like Beansprouts and Water Spinach (commonly known as Kang Kung). I also carry pails and pails of bowls at the end of the day. Why? Because the darn kitchen sink is so far and there are several steps and split level grounds to clear… sigh. Otherwise I’d be able to bring a little cargo trolley and put everything on it and cut short the strenous work. So those guys who think they need to purchase muscle builder supplements or serious gym work may come apply with me to carry my water each morning! I assure you this work just as well, if not BETTER!
