Friendly agent that became our friend

posted by constance

When my eldest daughter was turning one, I went to a baby fair at the Expo. There, I met Linda, an insurance agent who then became a family friend because she was a nice lady who went out of her way to consolidate our financial matters and insurance that weren’t even under the same company she works in. Anything we didn’t understand about insurance matters, she would be the first to provide a detail, clear and impartial view. I remembered asking her about some term life insurance quote and she didn’t pressed us into buying any plans, policy but left us to decided. When she was rushing to meet her year end target, I called a few good friends to see if they needed any endownment or their kids needed to buy policies. I even bought an endownment policy from her that month because I knew how important it was to be able to be someone in the insurance circle.

She is now a successful agent. Although she has very little time for us now due to her busy schedule, she still always remember to send us greeting cards, little gifts and send us messages via sms. The rest of the insurance agent I had from other company? They either have quit, prefer to service big bucks client or corporate company and don’t even bother to call us in the past 15 years or more since we bought from him.

DIY Cake Decor

posted by constance

Photobucket

If you are those who are really into making DIY cakes or something along that line, you might like The Icing Room. I bumped into this cute little kiosk while going for window shopping for best acne treatment with my family a week ago. I took a quick snap of their kiosk to show you. Bigger than a regular kiosk, this is a place where you can get your best friend’s or mom’s cake, followed by purchase of stuff and finally, put them all together on your own. They provide you your choice cake (plain) and you can start adding creams, decors and etc… I really liked this idea because sometimes when you bake your own cake at home, you get exhausted to do the washing and later on the icing part. You might also end up running here and there to get the ingredients and spend time whipping up the icing cream. Here you can buy your favourite colour piping cream, all the cute little decors to dress up your cake personally. I cannot remember how much they charge but I think you probably pay for the decors and cream and get a little time to decorate there… it’s really cool. If the place is nearer to home, I might want to do a little cake for Rae’s 9th Birthday soon.

Skin Care during Mom’s Era

posted by constance

When I was younger, I was blessed with good skin. Or perhaps it was because I followed my mom’s skin care regimen which is really an ancient way of skin care. All my sister and I did was to apply lots of Hazeline Cream followed by smearing a thick layer of home made rice powder paste. We all looked ghostly white every evening before bedtime but we had a good laugh everytime. My girlfriends who were growing up during puberty complained about their breakouts and always tried to exchange tips on acne treatment. But now that I am very very much older, I somehow got lost in the Hazeline/Rice Powder combination since there are loads of skin care products on sale everywhere. However, when I spotted a wrinkle line at the tail of my left eye, I am now considering taking off all other skin care products and use my nostalgic combination to see if it will help.. Their old metal cover packaging is no more in use. Now the cover is in smooth plastic in light yellow and the bottle seems wider and shorter… But the cream and smell is still the same… Will I get back my youth using this?

Boosting Business

posted by constance

Ah Boy asked me to check out how much to pay for advertisement in the newspapers. If I remember correctly, the cost can run from hundreds to thousands and tens of thousands. A small display ad may set one back by few hundred dollars but I’m not too sure what is the current rate. I used to work in Newscentre churning advertisements mainly of display nature. Some special features do cost a lot too. As many people now have internet connection at home and in the office, I am actually looking at paid web directory as well as sites that offer free and lower cost advertising. I wonder if these method will help to boost our business at all. The other alternative is to print small flyers. I’ve got a banner hung already and they are really effective.

Better Safe than Sorry

posted by constance

I read about many break-in cases of homes in the neighbouring country. As economic downturn gets worst, the number of such burglary seemed to be increasing parallel with crime rate percentage. I think if you live in a town that has a high chance of being burglared at home, it is always better to fix good type of home alarm systems. Some is linked to the police station so the cops get information when something goes wrong or when the alarm is being tampered or sounds. There are so many brands in the market but I haven’t any idea which is the best or most reliable. Any one out there has an idea?

No Need to Climb In

posted by constance

I don’t have a bath tub since we moved her in the last 4 years. I didn’t think I wanted one anymore since tubs are always in need of a good wash and polishing. Furthermore I had a bad back and climbing in and out somehow didn’t work for me. But I change my view of nice baths when I saw a picture of a walk in bath from an interior magazine, recently. I thought that was very nice and works for those who are elderly too. One does not have to worry about safety while climbing in and out. Guess someone really invented something really wonderful. If the price is right, I think I wouldn’t mind one myself.

Long list from Rae

posted by constance

Rae’s birthday is only two weeks away. She has asked me for a dozen stuff among a list of things she wanted pretty bad. She told me that she can always get the other stuff during Christmas, a month later should I can’t fulfilled them all! Wahahahahaa she seems to think that I will buy everything? Especially when my financial situation is pretty tight now… sigh.. I know for a fact that she has put a playstation 3, an iPhone as well as an MP3 player  at the top of the list and I am not too sure I will buy those at all, not just yet. I don’t even have a smart phone and I don’t own an MP3 player! She has been playing online games a lot lately so I suppose that is more than enough? I really cannot tell how much difference can online games and playstation games be. Anyone has that already?

White is Best

posted by constance

I looked at the bathroom downstairs and wondered if I can buy some chemical to whiten the space in between the ceramic tiles on the wall. I’ve tried bleach and it doesn’t work. A friend asked me to buy those grout fillers but I do not really know if they work on tiled walls of those are those that have just been tiled fresh after construction work. The other cheaper option would be to use white paint and paint them white. Then again, which type of paint can I use? Gosh, I am not a handy-man at all. Perhaps I should leave such jobs to the professionals? But I do so want those in between space to be perfect white… If they aren’t white, they look really grubby and yucky.

PCK Rubber Boots for Me?

posted by constance

At work, the kitchen floor gets very slippery because of the oil spilled from the roasted stall. I have tried wearing many types of shoes but many of my shoes do not adhere well when it comes to oily floor. Sneakers are not proper kitchen safety shoes though my Wilson tennis shoe works well actually. But it won’t be long before it meets it’s life span. Among so many shoes that I have tried, I think nothing will ever be as good as rubber boots, ala Phua Chu Kang. I think I may need to get a pair for myself. Those shoes have authentic rubber soles and prevent slips from all types of liquid, especially oil. I don’t understand why I can’t find nice women shoes fit for kitchen floor. I wonder if Crocs can be worn in the kitchen? I know many shoes do not sleep on wet floors but what about oily floors?

I’ve seen some black safety shoes but they are just terribly heavy and masculine. I can’t see myself drag myself wearing them at all.

Need More Time

posted by constance

I read two days of newspaper this evening. Saturday and Sunday’s. I just didn’t have so much time for news reading lately. I get tired after work, revising school work with my girl and sometimes I don’t have time to get online anymore, unless I need to check some urgent mails. The papers were filled with many handphone promotions and so many wonderful travel deals. I wished I had some budget for either a new phone or a short holiday… I want a phone I can facebook with or with messenger applications and I want a short holiday badly. I am totally exhausted and I’ve got so much to do and so little time. Can someone please zap the world with some supersonic timezone machine or some time freeze thingy for me? I need about 36 hours of ‘me-time’ for some beauty sleep, an enjoyable meal, some reading and perhaps some time playing on Bejewelled Blitz too. Anyone out there with that magic hand?

Mr Santa, can you hear me?
