Gym or Poppers

posted by constance

I opened the door to my regular Yakult delivery Aunty yesterday and she told me that I’d lost a lot of weight! Well, I didn’t know how to handle her comment, frankly.. should I be happy or should I be embarrassed? She asked me if I’d been working out because my arms looked lean.. That got me laughing so hard, actually. Give me a choice of gym equipment or fat burners, and I rather pick the latter! I’m terrible with equipments and all I did was starting work and carrying many 10-litre stock pots everyday, okay? That certainly equate to working out my arms like those 10kg weights you see in the gym. And all that walking certainly equals to doing fitness brisk walking at the park.. So I guess I have been doing involuntary ‘gym’ workout everyday, huh?

Kids and their Teeth

posted by constance

Last Wednesday, I decided to send my girl to a private dentist instead. She had two fillings done, one on a baby tooth that will only come off about 11 years of age and one molar that is permanent. The ones provided by her school doesn’t seem to be as frequent and effective as I thought. In the last holidays, the dental nurse had to cancelled her appointment and they have not even replaced with a new appointment yet, and it’s been almost 6 months. I decided not to wait and send her to a private dentist. For what I didn’t get in my younger days, I want to make sure that my daughters get the best dental care at their young age to prevent unnecessary woes since our teeth will be with us till we live to any ripe old age. I took her to a reputable dentist at Yew Tee that has moved to a new impressive building. Before that I had been surfing around and reading up on cosmetic dental care such as one southpark dentist by the name of Dr Farley Dr Farley is one dentist who even takes photos of his patient’s teeth to document his dental work! He had progressed from ordinary photographs to professional portrait photography he took up to fulfilled his passion in dental photography!

ION Orchard

posted by constance

Since the opening of ION Orchard, I have not gotten any chance to even step foot in it. Sprawled within stone’s throw from the junction of old time fave buildings like Wisma Atrium, Wheelock Place, Isetan and CK Tangs, ION Orchard looks really magnificent. It was designed and built by leading architecture firm Benoy, whom had been building iconic malls like the BULLRING in Birmingham. ION Orchard is built with nature as inspiration so gone are those stat board steel buildings that used to grace the Singapore skylines. I’m dying to see what is in there even though everyone tells me that the average food price in their food court can cost as much as $10 each… compared with the average $4.50 around shopping malls in other Orchard malls. Well, I’m sure their rental rate is among the highest in the location since this is a very new entry in our well known shopping street in Singapore. You can expect to find many new brands and also leading brands of the world here, as well as your neighbourhood Bengawan Solo if you are into that kueh craving mood. If you are one of those fashionistas, you’ll be delighted to find many things here. You can get impeccable concierge service as well as various free cell phone charging too. And the public toilet – among the poshest in the malls.

So, anyone has been in there yet?

Wondering

posted by constance

Almost a decade ago, after giving birth to my eldest daughter, I remembered posting birth announcements for my friends and family. Then, I was not blogging yet so I registered on a website. There were friends who even sent me wishes and congratulatory messages too. I am not sure if my birth announcement is still available but I’ve forgotten where I posted it at. I wanted to have a look at the pictures I uploaded on it since I’ve since lost some of my girl’s baby photos while in transit of moving our home thrice. I wonder if such websites still keep them online or they would normally deactivate or trash them once we are non active on their websites. I also wonder if those photo sites like photo buckets and others keep our photos there perpetually on the sites, like forever?

Male Fashion for Ladies

posted by constance

I was waiting for my girl while she had her dentist appointment when I started to browze on the magazines on the shelves. It had been a long time since I last read any magazines, especially those on fashion and beauty. It was a change of such magazines at the dentist because for once, the magazines were those for men, rather than for women. Do dentists read fashion mags for men? Where’d they get all these. I used to like to check out those smart GQ mags in my teens, because I just love those nice fitted-tailored jackets and mens tuxedo in men’s magazines. The way the textures and colours are put together are just so wonderful. I’d then bring these smart styling pictures to an elderly tailor to get him to do something similar for ladies. I also liked matt or semi matt stuff a lot though I have an eye for shimmery ones now. Aging woes?

Hooked on Chocs

posted by constance

In a million years, I never thought the day would ever come! I’ve started to binge on chocolates! I can’t help it. I don’t know why and I am not sure if this is going to be the best thing or the worst thing that is going to happen! I used (read: past tense) to love chocolates till my mid 30s when somehow it tapered off. I only ate dark chocolate ones till recently, somehow my taste buds have sort of changed drastically. I am quite sure it won’t be long before I start to search for the best weight loss pill because now I’m hooked on those milk chocolate types and I never used to like those! What am I gonna do? Is it in my mind or my body is telling me I need some sugar high for energy or something? Anyone ever went on this binging spree before? Help! I don’t want to put on weight especially when I have just managed to lose some in the past few months…

Is it worth buying?

posted by constance

Rae’s science projects has gotten her interested in gardening lately. She wants to start planting seedlings and grow her own flowering plants. She asked me to buy her some pink flowers in a pot recently at a pasar malam we went to in the last few nights. I asked the lady and she told me that each of those pots of flowering plants cost $8. I thought that was kinda like daylight robbery. I’ve seen these flowers grown in many common places before and I just don’t seem to want to part $8 for those. I know Rae was kinda disappointed so I explained to her that perhaps she should start growing flowers from seeds since it is just for the experience. Seeds in a packet are much cheaper too.. I know she is impatient but it is the result that will be rewarding. Buying a grown plant with flowers just isn’t worth the effort…

See, these are the flowers she wanted. I took these pictures from my mom’s garden in our last trip to Penang in March. I am pretty sure I can find these plants growing commonly all around.. They even come in purples too. Pretty ones from my mom’s garden!
