New Batt for my Car

posted by constance

My car battery went dead last week. Bad timing.. I paid about $170 for a new battery that requires very little or almost, no maintenance. They call it the dry cell battery. If I remembered it correctly, more than a year ago, they do not cost as much as this. But prices have gone up drastically, the mechanic told me. I also had to get this particular one because it sits exactly in size as my current one. Guess, I really can’t change much and I do need a new batt there and then. One advantage about this battery is that it comes with a year’s warranty for towing, anytime, anywhere in Singapore and Malaysia. That means, no questions asked. I can even get them to change my car tyre if it’s punctured and get them to tow it at my required destination. I also wonder if this company also does motorhome towing should one be caught with a flat battery in their year of warranty.. Can you imagine if one who is on a holiday drive and has a flat battery somewhere in the outskirts.. Would they send the tow truck over too?

Designers Now Have It Better

posted by constance

When I was in my teens, my parents had hopes that one day I would be someone who would pick professions like a doctor, lawyer or some high paying professional job. Then one day, I came back home and told mom that “I want to be an interior designer!”

Imagine the shock from Mom’s face and if I could remember it correctly, I was pretty sure she ‘flipped’.. lol What can I say, I’ve always been inclined to lean towards everything about art. And so, I took a two year Interior Design course for a start and also did Commercial Design. Back in those days, we didn’t have computers, no Macintosh (those cost about 30k each, so only those successful design companies might have one unit or two) and internet connection sounded Greek. Everything we did was done manually, from pasting, drawing, colouring, and we had to have a very good fundamental understanding when it comes to perspective drawings, marker rendering, colour theory and lots and lots of drawing. Can you imagine how much trouble we took just to finish one piece of artwork and subsequent views for clients? When you have a mistake done, you have to start again from scratch… Nowadays, Interior Designers have it the easier way. All their visuals are done using cad drawing (computer aided) softwares and they can make lots of colour co-ordination or changes with just the click of the mouse. And for those who did Graphics Design, no need to handle so much manual cut and paste because computers are so affordable now. I’m sure these ‘new generation’ designers have not even heard of the word “Omnicrom”..

Left is Right

posted by constance

I was window shopping when I stepped into a nice little shop that sells basins and faucets. I saw a very stylish Danze faucet that I really wanted to buy. It had a matt steel look and the tap handle is turned on at the top, which is what I prefer.

Do you know that I dislike using those taps that has to be turned on and off at the side? I like those that has auto sensor or the kind that just need to push the lever up or down. WHY? Because I am a leftie. When you are left handed, chances are you will turn the tap the other way, against the normal direction. I always get my clothes wet because I turn them the water too much thinking that I am turning it off! Grrrr…

I wonder what will happen if one day everything on Earth will magically be changed for the benefit of the minimum lefties? Will all the right handed people start complaining and swear? Can that happen just a day? *closes eyes and make a wish….*

Tonic and Health

posted by constance

We all want to live a healthy life. Some people resort to organic products but in the recent papers, I read that some studies or research do not show proof that these organic products can be any better than those we eat that are non organic. What is in our non organic food? We hear of preservatives, msg, colourings, pesticides, chemicals and so much more of things that can harm our body if taken in excess. I make sure I read the labels carefully each time I buy something. I like to get those that claim to be of some herbal value. Some supplements now come with ingredients that claim that they contain herbal ingredients in them. I know even we have herbal weight loss pills in the market. I wonder if they are the same as traditional chinese medicine? I do know that chinese tea is a good remedy for getting rid of excess oil consumed. The Goji berries/Boxthorn fruit is something that I love to use as an ingredient in my soup for the benefit of our eyes. Another thing that I love to get often is the Ling Yang that I boil with a little rock sugar once every two weeks for the children to keep the heat away. For myself, I now take Yomeishu once every two days to keep myself alert.

Golf Holidays with a New Twist

posted by constance

I met a mom of my daughter’s schoolmate. She was bringing her youngest daughter for her golf training. Lately, many parents I know are letting their children adopt golf as co-curricular activity. It used to be an expensive hobby but now with so many clubs available, it has become very affordable. I know of many parents who just can’t wait for their child to turn into the next Tiger Woods or perhaps a Little Yang in the making.. Guess, with this training, kids will never find going for golf club holidays a bore when dad is out playing golf since their children can play too. Another option is to go for an all in one holiday like the Myrtle beach golf packages to get a wonderful resort cum golf holidays, lots of holidays and a Vegas-style nightlife too. Paradise is this place! I know I would love to go to such a place..

Wierd Dream

posted by constance

I had a bad dream last night. I dreamt that I had no luck shedding some weight and the bad news was, I kept on putting-on-weight, instantly. And as I ate my three meals, nothing could stop me gaining weight. Each gram of food just caused me to grow and grow in weight and size. Boy, at the end of the day, I had ballooned as much as 4x my ideal weight after having 4 meals of Breakfast, Lunch, Tea and Dinner.

I woke up and felt so glad that it was just a dream. I do not need to lose so much weight. As long as I am fit and healthy, I am blessed. But few months ago, I had a different opinion, even wanting to hunt for effective diet pills for myself. There are so many types in the market and I have been reading about them non stop.. The best, The most effective, Safe ones and even find out which movie stars take which ones!

I wonder why on earth do I get such a dream last night? Perhaps my subconscious mind is telling me something? Burden, Diet or perhaps some trouble stuff at the back of my mind I had put off?

Small Lime Makes My Mouth Water

posted by constance

I go to the local supermart to get my daily supplies fresh. Each time I walk past the small and big limes, I get into this craving for some fresh lime juice. I had this picture of the small lime juice while in Penang early this year. Somehow the small limes in Singapore doesn’t seemed to taste as potent as the ones in Penang… is it the soil? or is it the weather or what? Where do the limes in Penang come from? Some of those in Singapore comes from Malaysia but not too sure which state..

Photobucket

Just thinking of this drink makes my mouth water… Ohhhhh how refreshing it must be, after a hot day at work.. And I am also craving for the Green Coloured Lemons… the colour is just more appealing because yellow lemons just remind me of Toilets and Washing liquids!

Early Christmas Wish

posted by constance

If only Santa is in town. If only I am as young again. If only I am not besotted with financial woes. If only, if only, if only. Taking a walk in the evening to the local shops, I can’t help but stand and watch this kid playing on a Wii tennis game from the gaming shop. How I wish I had one of those! I know few friends who has them but I wonder if they still play them.. But this is definitely not cheap if you add all the extra Wii accessories that are available. Like the Wii Fit Pad, the games ( SO MANY GAMES!) but what I really one is to have a go at the tennis or fitness programs.

It’s only few months to Christmas.. Santa, Santa! Can you make my wish come true? Do I still have that tooth that wasn’t left under my pillow when I was 7?

Sales Not Over Yet

posted by constance

I thought the Great Singapore Sale is over. But it seems like with each turn of the newspaper, I see nothing but full pages of sales, from electrical appliances like LCD televisions, Fridges, Washers to furnitures like bedroom sets, living room furniture and even baby stuff like prams, clothings and so much more. I also read that the property market is doing brisk sales with many new launches and pretty good sales too. Does this mean the economy is slowly picking up if people are buying big ticket items now? Even IKEA is packed!

Gosh, I sure hope I don’t get to read more laying off news after another recent one last week. And with the new integrated resort coming up, will that give more jobs to the people or make them more susceptible to gaming and gambling woes?

Any good news across the causeway?

I need my own farm

posted by constance

We’ve been cutting cost. Seriously, to the lowest possible we can. We also need to give up the bigger car too. It is not easy having to maintain both cars especially now. That is because we have to pay double of everything. From auto insurance to road tax, season parking, car servicing and petrol. And we have to send the car for LTA checks because as soon as your car hits the third year, checks are compulsory to make sure your car is in good condition or else we will be denied renewal of road tax! Boy, that means even more money… Is there any place on earth we can go that is so low cost and do not need money? I have this desire to live in a small village or town and perhaps grow my own veg, rear my own chickens for egg and meat and even cows for milk and homemade cheese and yoghurt. No, I don’t mean Farm Town. I meant for real. I’m too tired with this concrete society that sends me nothing but bills, bills, and more bills!
