Need More Control

posted by constance

I get up in the middle of the night lately. Well, the wee hours of the morning. I find myself getting hungry and go downstairs for a cup of milo or some simple sandwich. Then I will turn on the dvd player and continue watching HK chinese drama till about 5am and sleep for another hour.

That has been going on for the past two weeks. I eat my dinner about 7pm so why do I get hungry so fast? Perhaps I should start looking for the best appetite suppressant and take it after the last meal of the day. Otherwise I think I’m going to be putting in inches by the width before the month is up! But I know if I don’t fill up my stomach, I just can’t go to sleep at all! What’s with my body?

June Holidays for Some

posted by constance

The recent swine flu outbreak is devastating. Many in Mexico are fallen victims to this and seems like in Singapore, flu jabs are now in demand. As we are in a metropolitan city, we get many people who come from all over the world. Many international schools also have parents that travelled far and wide often so it is important to conduct health checks like temperature taking daily.

It is only a month away from the June’s month long holiday and I have heard of the children in my daughter’s school talking about holiday trips. A girl was talking about how her parents had promised her 10 days of Orlando vacations in the States. I wonder now if these two sisters are still going.

At the kindy of my youngest, parents are now out of bounds into the school. We only get to see them off at the cordoned area where the temperature checks and sanitation place is.

I hope they find a vaccine for these flus as soon as possible. I am thinking of getting my girls the Tamiflu jabs for the meantime.

Leaner and Lighter Cabinets

posted by constance

Did you remember that in the old days, we used to have large woody cabinets to house our television, video tape player and other audio devices? Well lately because our television now comes slim enough to be mounted on walls, we don’t buy multiple high-up-to-the-ceiling stereo cabinet anymore but a very modern console for your speakers and dvd players. Our speakers are also mounted and hidden away too. Some of us don’t even keep the bulky hi-fi or mini compo but just a little docking system for our iPods! Things have changed. Leaner, lighter and more streamlined. I also get more cabinet space to house my costume jewellery after I threw out my big bulky TV in my room.

And what is wonderful is that it is not so much of a hassle for us when it comes to moving to a new home. We can move these fragile items by just picking it up and place it at the back of the car without having two strong men to help carry down a plight of stairs!

Hurrahhhh!

Farm Town at Home

posted by constance

After playing Farm Town for the past week, I found myself looking at seeds at the local mart’s gardening section. I used to grow lots of Thai basil and mint outside my balcony. The smell of these two herbs are really just wonderful! My passion of gardening even got me to purchase a small glass house with temperature control so that I could grow strawberries in it. The berries were small because of limited place, it is a small little glass house after all. After seeing Jepunlauee’s herbs in her blog, I was tempted to start indoor gardening again.. I think my girls would be very keen to do that too as she has been growing some cactus from seeds thrown into a pot of soil. She asked me to get some Blackberry plants but I am not too sure if it is possible. So far I’ve only seen strawberry seeds but not Blackberry ones.. and also since I’ve thrown out the mini glasshouse, I have to start looking around for one.

Love Parks and Greenery

posted by constance

Sometimes I love to surf online to check out the various towns in United States. And when I do, I would read about the weather and their sights in the area. I thank the internet for feeding my hunger for reading up on locations, and sometimes I even check out the live Google earth to see the lovely townships. A recent mail I receive by a Wilmington NC real estate agency got me to start googling for North Carolina and the many beautiful signts offered. This beautiful city is home to about 250 acres of landscaped parks, green spaces, lots of fountains, playgrounds, picnic areas, athletic fields, and many other sports and recreational facilities outdoors!

I love the outdoors so I am sure this must be a beautiful city with lots of greenery too!

Sushi or Plain Rice?

posted by constance

Sometimes it’s so difficult to get my girls to eat dinner. They just do not like rice meals. They can take up to an hour finishing it, taking their own sweet time, and the food is so cold at the end. Although they love soup, I try not to give them too much because they end up drinking all the soup and that spoils their appetite.

My girls love sushi and it is never difficult to get them to eat sushis. So sometimes, as a novelty, I make sushi out of rice (without the sushi solution) and they will wallop it up readily. Although I have many sushi moulds, I still prefer to use the bamboo mat to roll up the rice and fillings and cut them into sushis. They love crabsticks, eggs, chopped spinach and brocolli, carrot sticks and cheese in their little cute sushi moulded rice. Well, as long as it gets them to eat, it makes no difference if I compress them or not. Rice is rice after all. Thai fragrant rice is just as good as sushi rolls except they aren’t that sticky.

Is it hard to get your kids to eat their dinner?

I Love My New LCD TV

posted by constance

The television in our room is probably reaching its lifespan now. For the past few months, the colours on the monitor have gone haywire! The reds are green, the greens are blues, and the blues are red. And the few months watching it is not as strange anymore although initially they looked like aliens with anything but fleshed coloured faces. At least this beats watching black and white television! Then last Sunday, Ah Boy decided that he has enough of it and decided to go to Courts’ electronics department to shop for a TV in the room. Well, the kids are not complaining because they get to watch their cartoons from the TV in the living which is perfectly fine and the cable is connected there.

So after looking around and comparing prices, we decided to settle for a 19″ LCD HD ready TV that was offering at $399 only. Pretty cheap because the normal price was $599. Electrical items are getting cheaper by the month because of the economy downturn and mega shops are clearing stocks. I’m very happy with this buy because it’s a reputable brand (Sharp) and the TV is in white and not black or silver like most monitors.

Of course pretty soon after getting it fixed, the kids cannot wait to try it on and watched their favourite Kungfu Panda on it. Looks like the kids have monopolized the TV upstairs now!

We Love Pizzas!!!

posted by constance

Saturday we made pizza. The girls enjoyed it so much they want to make it a regular weekend thingy! I think maybe once every two weeks is fine. Have you ever tried making pizza from scratch before? I mean making the pizza base too? We did that on Saturday and it was fun.. kneading took some effort so I did it but the kids had fun rolling it into a pizza base. Then we place it on shallow aluminiums plates.

Photobucket

I always love pizzas with extra cheese and spinach.  I made mine spinach and cheese and I added prawns too. It was yummy! I let the kids handled their own pizza topping and add whatever they wanted. Want to make your own pizza? Read about Pizza Saturday at my food blog..

Guess after that overload on Pizza, the following day I felt just pretty fat and guilty from all the cheeses and the high carbo foods I’ve been stuffing on. I better¬† be reading up on that Colonix review since I could never drag myself to the gym to work out at all. And if they do work well, I can spluge on Pizza once every two weeks without guilt…

The Scarlett Hotel

posted by constance

In the past months, I’ve not really travelled down town especially Chinatown area. I miss going there. When I was working in Tanjung Pagar (CBD district), Chinatown is a stone’s throw and I’d be walking down there to meet a few friends for lunch. I miss a little restaurant that sells wonderful Beef Hor Fan, just across the Eu Yang Sang shop. I wonder if it is still there. A friend is coming down to Singapore for a visit and has asked if Chinatown hotels are recommended. I thought a wonderful experience would be for her to try out the arty farty Scarlet Hotel which was voted Best boutique hotels by Singapore Tatler 2008, Best Boutique Hotel by TTG Travel Awards 2008 and Best Accomodation Experience by Singapore Tourism Awards 2008 recently. These are just some of the many awards they have won. Their room boast of many different themes and colours very suitable for the young and those who appreciate ecletic tension.

Located very near Ann Siang Hill and the famous Maxwell Road Food Centre, you’ll be able to feed your passion for some clubbing scene and food haunt too. Can’t wait for her to check it out!

Kids Have Good Memory

posted by constance

It is two months away to Lea’s birthday. She’s been pestering me to get her a second ‘Baby Alive’ baby doll for the past year. We gave her one two Christmases ago. Baby Alive was advertised on the kids’ channel so often two years ago. They really know how to get our kids’ pester us for the latest toy and not to forget, expensive too. It’s already almost two years since it was ‘hotly’ advertised.

We bought ‘Baby Alive’ at the cost of about S$69 just for a medium sized one. Lea really made it worth because now, two years later, she is still taking care of this baby doll daily and nightly too. And whenever she is in Toys R Us, she sees these baby dolls on the racks and has pestered us to get her a second one. Gosh, if the price is really really discounted by a lot, I don’t mind but I know she wants the larger one that cost more than S$100++!! I wonder if buying her 10 Kinder Bueno Chocolates will make up for that? She has super duper computer memory and I won’t be surprised if she throws a tantrum for not getting her that.. Perhaps we can strike a bargain..
