I was supposed to drop by Ikea this afternoon to get some tea light candles for my oil burner. In the old days, when I had no kids, I’d light up the burner and drop Bergamot and Peppermint and have a nice soak in the tub. With my kids around now, I don’t do that anymore because you don’t get luxury time in the shower even! Now, I light up the burner in the balcony and drop Citronella for prevention of mosquitos. We live on the 10th and 11th floor and yet we do get an occasional mosquito some days. Anyone know of a best way to repel them? Any other oils that I can use on my burner that works? I dislike the use of those Baygon or Ridsect sprays.

I have been on a shopping spree lately. Buying things like those cute little accessories for kids. While blog hopping, I also found many moms who are now very into Bento lunch. Although I bought some of those accessories years back, I never really started on it. However, after looking at the many blogs, I finally decided to get started since my kids bring their lunch to school about 3 days a week.
If you are crazy about Bento, there are many blogs that do great looking Bentos too. Sometimes I go online to search for Bento accessories. I have quite a lot of Bento stuff that I bought in access over the years.
Ebay has many Bento accessories but they are mostly sold in USD. If you are in Malaysia then Little-Bazaar sells them in RM$ and sends by Pos Laju or Pos Express to those living in East and West Malaysia. Those living in Malaysia pay nominal postage too.
I have 4 items that I am giving away to my Top 4 Commentators on 30th October. Be the Top 4 to win these prizes.

My girls had a lovely time learning games we used to play, on Sunday at IMM. Well, IMM had organized a weekend of Children’s Day of activities fill with those games of yesteryears.
If you were born during the babyboom and generation X years, you probably have played some of these games before. Among the nostalgic games were: Airplane Chess, Five Stones, Zero Point (with rubber bands), Card Games (Old Maid/Donkey), Pick Up Sticks, Small jigsaw puzzle, Kuti Kuti (not sure if these are played in Malaysia, but it was popular in Singapore), Gasing (Top in Malay), Marbles, Skipping Ropes and more.
Well these are some of the games featured at the mall. It was quite refreshing compared with the girls playing the modern day games.
We joined the human Airplane Chess and toss the large dice and moved ourselves. The emcee was very chatty and kind, looking our for members of the colour groups to move for advantage. 4 groups could play at a time belonging to 4 different colours. The colour group that won walks away with the grand prize) and the rest gets smaller prizes of goodie bags.
Rae ( in pink) and Kakak were both in the red team. The emcee with the microphone (in black Tshirt) were among the judges.
Rae had a hand playing ‘Pick up sticks’. Each team comprises of 2 players and there were 4 teams playing at one time. The players are all lined together and matched with opponents according to their height- hilarious. Rae had an indian boy to play against. Each team has a referee each.
Rae started the game after a game of Scissors, Paper Stone.
Flipping is a trick used to remove the sticks. Rae learnt fast. As the game advances, it gets hot!
Opponent’s dad advising son on the game… The other two teams on the right.
It was quite a good game. 6 were in consolation while 2 made it to the final game for the grand prizes.
Well Done, everyone!! Rae stands at far left, in pink.
I had just bought a new washing machine. The fellas that came to install it were terrible. They practically just delivered the machine and told me that because the pipe from the previous machine were higher, they are not able to do anything about it. Frankly, I wasn’t very pleased about it because I thought ‘installation included’ meant they were suppose to come with a bag of tools and adjust the existing pipes. How on earth would I know if the pipes that goes into the gutter is too high for the new washer? If I had known how it worked, I could have just picked up the washer myself, connect it to the faucet and do the rest on my own. Aren’t they suppose to come in with a plumber or technician? Those delivery men took one look at it and said they cannot connect in and they left. Of course they couldn’t. They came in with nothing, no bag of drills nor any allenkey, if they had one! All in 15 minutes of delivery while I picked my girl up from school during that time, they left in a hurry.
I called my hubby and he said all he needed was to saw the existing plastic pipes shorter. Hubby did it in less than 10 minutes. And the delivery men couldn’t do it! They should have just remove the word ‘installation’ out of their agreement.
School exam just a week away, and the stress level is mounting. I can tell when I look at the mirror and my skin reacts to stress. I see wrinkles, dry skin, pigmentation and blackheads. Am I getting paranoid? I hope not. Perhaps I should just pamper myself more. Make an appointment for a facial and a massage. That would be nice. Since the birth of my girls, I hardly spend anything on myself. Guess many moms would echo me too. Everything we do or things we buy, goes to family and kids. It’s about time I get some attention on my own.
The weather makes me sleepy. It is so unpredictable. Hot and humid like for half a day, then pours like cats and dogs all of a sudden.
The girls are having a great time with their inline skates. I can see it in their faces. I, too want to have a go at it. So, how does one get started? Perhaps I should just buy one first. Or wait for the end of the year end sale before Christmas. There should be some good sales then. I had spoken with my friend who is my age (she turned 40 first in January..lol) and she is also picking up roller blading. And she tells me how great it is. Perhaps before I fall down hard on my butt or something, I should get some funny t-shirts to wear? Something like “L Plate Blader” or “I’ll FALL OVER YOU if you don’t stop staring!” So let me go look for my blades first.
The durian season is still around. I think Durian made me put on some weight in the past month. I hope there isn’t any sight of it or I’ll just keep growing sideways! Does it take so long before it is totally cleared? Not so sure why I am so addicted to it this year when I have not really been eating them for years! Does it have to do with age? Our tastebuds certainly change and as far as I want to thank you all for the lovely wishes yesterday on my birthday, I actually suppressed myself to ignore that I made it to the big 4 already.
My numbers are increasing, and my weight is increasing too. Does it usually move in such parallel fashion? Does that mean ten years later, I shall be adding another 10 kgs to my weight till my knees give way? Yikes. So I better check out a new weight loss program or just go for alli. If it can help me lose some weight, I’d be so happy.
Today the weather is bright and sunny. Such a contrast from yesterday. Yesterday, it was pouring like cats and dogs. The night before it was also heavy. And the thunderstorm sounded whole night. I woke up few times. Double check windows and the balcony.
Yesterday morning before it poured in the morning, I saw the sky and the gloomy clouds. It was hanging like a blanket in between the brighter part.
Look at this picture I took. Looks like a scene from those movie of some thunderstorm that will wipe the town out.
Travel agencies are getting very aggressive lately. They hold their travel fairs more often than last time. It is only in September and they are wooing people to book for the end of the year holidays. It has been a while that we have travelled to other countries apart from the neighbouring ones. Guess with kids around we have to work out if it is costly or not to travel as a whole family plus a helper. Kids do not get a child rates anymore unless they are 2 years or less. Don’t forget to get your travel insurance, when you travel. You can claim against your loss for instances like a missing luggage.
The supermarket near my home sells very large frozen turkeys. I love a good roast turkey and stir fry pumpkin to go with it. In the past, I had tried many different recipes that cooks turkey differently. Roast turkeys are wonderful and the leftovers are just great as salads or sandwiches. Many friends I know prefer to buy them during festive periods like Christmas or Thanksgiving. Most of these turkeys are roasted early for collection. If you have a party, the turkey would then be sitting in your home for more than a whole day! If you have time, roasting a turkey at home is best. Marinate it a day before and roast it on the day of your party. You can get some great Thanksgiving recipes from the web. I marinated mine with lots of garlic, parsley, sage and lemon juice.
